I agree, but do you really think legalizing all drugs is a good idea? I don't.
Especially if we continue cutting the safety net programs to deal with addiction.

Also, I think generational poverty plays a role in why people [linethrogh]do[/linethrough] abuse drugs to begin with.

Blacks have had 50 years now to move into the middle class and a large portion of them have done that. Those who have not yet done so, are unlikely to have kids who will.

Why not? Prohibition doesn't work and has never worked. Plus, legalizing drugs will cut off the cashflow that gangs and cartels rely on. The money spent combating drugs and housing prisoners can be spent on education and then we might actually see a return on our investment.

Nobody should spend life in prison for drugs (and yes people are spending life in prison for drug charges).

The federal government has passed law after law hat has disproportionately hurt black people. Particularly black males. They have effectively eliminated black males from the legal workforce so the kids turn to selling drugs and stuff to make money.

How about a few sentences.

Lack of father figures in their lives and parental supervision.

Add those 2 things and you take care of most of the black communities problems. I bet if you look at rate of crime in black households with a father figure the rate is much more closer to non black crime rates.

John Ogbu believed that much of the issues of the black culture came from being involuntary immigrants to this nation as opposed to voluntary. Once that negativity became part of the black subculture it has maintained. Current black immigrants do better because they are voluntary immigrants who embrace the greater American culture, however, within three generations their decedents with assimilate into the smaller black subculture and have the same issues.

Would rep you if I could. Everyone should read Ogbu, McWhorter and Sowell on this subject.

Drug addiction is the reason I think. The highest crime neighborhoods are where drugs are as available as candy, highly toxic and highly addictive drugs where the addict would kill his own grandmother for his next fix.
