I've also heard that anal sex is quite popular among these "purity ball" attendees and supporters... forget where I read/saw that, but these kids admitted that since they can't have "real sex," they just did it that way instead. With no protection, since after all, you can't get preggers!! (may have been the same documentary you watched)
There's a lovely Garfunkle and Oates song about this called "The Loophole". NSFW.

This is actually a very long standing cultural phenomenon well before purity balls...especially in devout christian and catholic upbringings. If you are only having anal sex....technically you can still get married a virgin. That's the logic at least.
Now you're just being...odd. The conversation was about making decisions about my own body vs. having an outside group set rules for me. And for the record, I've been married for almost 30 years.
Marriage is also one of the ways society structures our sex lives.
It sounds like a bunch of creepy dudes telling young women how to live their lives. Sounds familiar, Middle East?
What's with the word "creepy?" I've seen it several times in this thread. Is it meant to imply that the fathers who attend these events are sexually interested in their own daughters? Do people actually believe this or is it just intended as an insult to them?
Unwanted pregnancy and STDs are far from the only ways sex effects people's lives.
emotions? some people have them, some don't. in my youth I was sexually involved with at least 2 guys who were hot and good in bed, but when they opened their mouths, the attraction would disappear. with my husband, I felt a totally different connection. he was like a best friend that I also had sex with. I know some people can't separate sex from feelings. if you are one of those people, it's best you realize that about yourself and don't participate in activities that make you feel bad. it's all part of growing up emotionally.

A young woman pledging her virginity to her dad is creepy, indeed.
