ROFL..if they just had more money they wouldn't have hired him.
I'm concerned about this, and its part of a major problem. Snowden is another example of someone who shouldn't have been given security clearance.

Part of the problem is that he was never convicted of the gun violence he was charged with from years earlier. That would have thrown a flag at a background check. But being charged with a crime, as we know, doesn't mean you're guilty of it so it doesn't show on your record. I think this shows multiple levels of institutional failure from local authorities in his previous locations, and a lack of screening of people who have access to hardened facilities.

Hell, I had to go through more background checks to work in an airport in Florida then I did for a TS security clearance for the AF.

That's just to scare people, no matter the news source.

And, I don't even think the Army has fully auto M15/M16s any more, they are 3 round burst.....

It is, and thats fine. I'm simply stating that the guy took weapons from victims. He didn't go up against unarmed men, he was fighting people with other guns, won the fight, and used those weapons on others.

So this argument of "well if they only had guns" isn't valid in this case. Its also not a case where this should be brought up for assault weapons bans, because they were military weapons he was taking from trained individuals.

It does show a severe lack of discipline on the guards. I feel for their families, but the guards failed in their duty.

Terrible and tragic. Sadly, throughout the history of mankind, similar events have happened. It wasn't always guns. Perhaps it's a human condition.

Well I haven't been privy to one since early 2001, but they had them then. Semi auto, burst, and full auto, aka Happy switch.

They've been a reality long before now.

Just read his bio, seems he was a lost soul somehow, someone described him as a 13-year old boy in the body of a grown man. Anger management problems...
I don't want to know how many armed sleepers like him are still out there, waiting to explode

Not nearly at this frequency, though. Back in the 1980s & 90s, it happened once every few years (or more). Now, it's a few times a year. At this point, it's almost as if the news networks are dedicating an entire day of coverage to this out of obligation.

I wouldn't be so quick to say this. I still stand by my reasoning that as crazy as this person was if he knew that the facility was fully armed not a "gun free" zone thanks to our politicians he might not have done what he did. Now he might have just found some other way to get his agenda done .. who knows.
