W.W. Bridal Boutique owner Victoria Miller told the newspaper that “providing those two girls dresses for a sanctified marriage would break God’s law.”

Bloomsburg Town Council plans to discuss the incident at a meeting on Monday. Council members said they will consider whether to propose legislation to ban businesses from refusing to serve gays and lesbians.

private business, the local, state and feds should not get involved at all unless that business is getting taxpayer money for their business.

They are self professed lesbians wanting a Christian to make wedding dresses for them. The shop keeper could not do that without violating their beliefs. Opposing immoral behavior is not discrimination, it is the right thing to do.

And yet the halal meat store still discriminates against me by not selling me pork!

Nope.

Kosher delis are happy to serve Kosher foods to non-Jews and this bridal boutique would be happy to provide gowns for lesbians marrying men.

It's not who they are.

It's not what they are.

It's only what they are doing that matters.
The American people are disgusted with this rhetoric and see it as nothing more than hate and discrimination. It's fun watching conservative heads explode as they realize the public is turning against them. No wonder church attendance is declining. The millennials are in favor of gay marriage/rights and will soon take over political power as the baby boomers die off. This thread has already consumed much more time that what I would have liked and it's time for me to move on as I have much more productive things to do.

One more time.

Lunch counters were a PRIVATE BUSINESS - they were segregated (in MY lifetime) - now they are not.

Want Ads (private owned newspapers sold to the public) had listings (in MY lifetime) that used to say "White Male Wanted" - now they don't

And if you support the idea that a business can CHOOSE who they allow to shop, eat, or work there - you are supporting discrimination.

It is really that simple.

If you haven't yet moved on, here's a question: If The American People are so sick of what you see as hate and discrimination, why is it that neither the fed gov't. nor most states have made it illegal for businesses to 'discriminate' based on sexual orientation ?

I suppose if some gay people died because no pharmacy would fill their prescriptions or a restaurant didn't sell them food or a hotel wouldn't rent them a room, you'd see disgust at the businesses. Not selling them wedding gowns is barely a blip on the outrage meter.

Where did I dictate anything? The laws of the state dictate all kinds of things, and pretty soon they will dictate that shops can not discriminate based on sexual orientation.

But in this particular case no one dictated anything at all. The shop is acting within the law, and so is the couple that were refused service. It's called the free market at work.

a private business that does not get any kind of taxpayer money at all to support their business should be allowed to discriminate against whomever they want to for any reason at all.

Obviously it is more than a blip, since the shop owner has closed down their Facebook page and their web site due to the comments she has received. The story is all over the national media. She has also gone form open for business to open only on appointment.

More and more states ARE including sexual orientation in their anti-discrimination laws. The town and state from this incident were already working on passing such laws. This shop just added to the push to get those laws enacted.

Thinking that by 2014 basic human kindness and decency towards people who may be "different" than ourselves didn't need legislation?

There WILL be words added amending the anti-discrimination legislation to include sexual orientation as more and more people stand up and speak up.

Just a matter of time - and less time than you people who disagree think.

Get used to it.
