FYI, workingclasshero, the Pico Rivera store opened in 2002 and was expanded in 2007. Not the 80's.

EXCELLENT point! (One of MANY you have made!)

Why NO notice to employees or customers? No, of course, this is not required, but wouldn't it just make good economic sense and be good customer and employee relations?

Which seems more likely:

1. Someone from WM headquarters called the store managers who knows how long ago and said, "Oh, btw, we are closing your store, but you need to keep it a secret until Monday evening, April 13."

2. The individual store managers just make the decision all on their own, and it was just a coincidence they picked the exact same evening to make the announcement.

3. This store closings -- whether due to serious plumbing problems or something else -- have been known to WM senior executives (and possibly the affected store managers) for weeks (or more likely months), and they just chose to spring it on the affected customers and employees.

Sorry, but I just can't think of any reasonable explanation for this set of incredible (and I do mean incredible) circumstances.

That's disinfo. The Alex Jones version only notes the closures, and that multiple questions and theories are swirling around the issue by onlookers. It posits none:

"Theories are flying after Walmart stores around the country suddenly announced that they were closing down for six months to deal with “plumbing” issues.

"Five different stores suddenly announced they were shutting up shop all for the same reason.

"Walmarts in Pico Rivera, California, Livingston, Texas, Midland, Texas, Brandon, Florida, and Tulsa, Oklahoma, all made the announcement.

"The news sparked wild conspiracy theories, with some linking the closures to Jade Helm, the upcoming military exercise which some fear is a dry run for martial law."

Wal-Mart in the Midland area has been noted in the past for its $14-an-hour wage, far above the minimum wage in Texas. The Wal-Mart official called the wages that Wal-Mart offers “competitive” and said that wages “have been higher in areas like Midland and North Dakota and places like that where the economy has been extremely strong.”
When asked if the closing was to trim high-paid employees, the official stressed that the closing had to do only with the plumbing issues, not because of the high wages.
Official: Wal-Mart had more than 100 plumbing issues in two years - MRT.com: Business

This story also mentions that the Walmart will be donating all perishables to the local food bank. You would think that they would have planned for this closure buy selling off merchandise rather then keeping the store fully stocked up until the very last moment.

You'd think that some employees would have noticed ongoing plumbing problems.
