The Bundy family wouldn't have been ranchers for decades if they let there cattle become malnourished, or starve to death.

You're smart enough not to believe that nonsense.

I never said it was right to allow the cattle onto property that they didn't have permission to use.

You guys believe that free range/organic ranching is wrong just because the Bundys were doing it. Don't tell all of your progressive friends that only eat free range/organic food know you said that. LoL.

Wrong again... THIS is the requirement for labeling beef organic:

As for organic meat, regulations require that animals are raised in living conditions accommodating their natural behaviors (like the ability to graze on pasture), fed 100% organic feed and forage, and not administered antibiotics or hormones.

The rancher has to demonstrate that everything the cattle ate met the standards for organic produce

"Produce can be called organic if it’s certified to have grown on soil that had no prohibited substances applied for three years prior to harvest. Prohibited substances include most synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. In instances when a grower has to use a synthetic substance to achieve a specific purpose, the substance must first be approved according to criteria that examine its effects on human health and the environment (see other considerations in “Organic 101: Allowed and Prohibited Substances”)."

USDA Blog » Organic 101: What the USDA Organic Label Means

When you let your cattle roam all over Nevada you can't claim that they were fed organically because you have no idea what they ate.

Not paying grazing fees makes for tremendous savings. A certain loss rate becomes manageable.

Another interesting viewpoint. Wrong, but interesting.

This is how Nevada organic ranchers operate?

Nor does he bring his cattle off the public lands in the off-season to feed them when the already sparse food supply in the desert is even scarcer. Raised in the wild, Bundy’s cattle are left to fend for themselves year-round, fighting off predators and scrounging for the meager amounts of food and water available in the difficult and arid terrain that comprises the public lands in that area of the country. Bereft of human interaction, his cattle that manage to survive are wild, mean and ornery. At the time of the events giving rise to the charges, Bundy’s cattle numbered over 1,000 head, straying as far as 50 miles from his ranch and into the Lake Mead National Recreation Area (“LMNRA”), getting stuck in mud, wandering onto golf courses, straying onto the freeway (causing accidents on occasion) – foraging aimlessly and wildly, roaming in small groups over hundreds of thousands of acres of federal lands

It's clear that this is a tightly knit family. Nice of the feds to keep them all together.

I don't know about his ancestors, but Cliven isn't a real deal stockman. He makes his living growing melons, and he takes far more care of them than his cattle. From all accounts, his melons are excellent.

That cannot be said about his cows. He grows them so he can wear the hat and look like a cowboy. A real stockman would never have committed any of his hanky-panky.

Update please.

Can someone summarize what is happening with those arrested?

There really isn't anything to report at this point other than some of them are being held without bond. It will likely be six months to a year before trails start.

Looks like the welfare mooch is going to be forced to pay for his own defense.

"U.S. Magistrate Judge Carl Hoffman expressed doubt that Bundy would qualify for a lawyer at public expense and gave the 69-year-old rancher until Thursday to hire a lawyer or file revised financial disclosure forms."

Cliven Bundy makes initial court appearance in Nevada | OregonLive.com

Might be time to round up all of those diseased cattle and see what they're worth.

These guys are looking at hefty prison time. There are mandatory minimums for their crimes that run in the decades. It's doubtful they'll ever see the light of day again in their lifetimes if they are convicted.
