No one even knew until they found his body a few days later and someone remembered the video posted on social media. They probably thought it was a joke until they found out it was actually real.

There was a guy in Houston a couple of years ago getting beat with a bat and onlookers just filmed it and didn't try to stop it. A middle aged woman finally came along and stopped the beating. This is a sickness, and it's only getting worse.

Please don't blame all teens. This is another tragic story, and look at what these teens did:

There's no crime committed, and you cannot make people care by doing something to them. People either care about others or they don't.

Nothing that you do to these losers will make them start caring. The only thing that could ever possibly change them is if something happened to them, personally. I'm not saying something should, I mean if at some point in their life, they needed help and people ignored them or mocked them for it. Only when they truly understand, from personal experience, will they have a chance to start caring...and even that is not a guarantee.

These are sociopaths, as someone put it on the first page. They have no empathy at all. They put no value on life at all.

I think this is more common than people know or want to admit.

I made a general statement when I should have said "many," but I have noticed quite a disturbing trend because of cell phones. And of course there are wonderful people in the world still. Let's hope they outnumber the others in the future.

I am not going to defend these people, but Saving a drowning person when you are not sure about skills is only going to kill you both, so I won't blame them for not jumping in the water.

This said, they should have reported and asked for help. Honestly speaking, the "I wouldn't **** on him if he was on fire" folks scared the hell out of me.

Why do people think everywhere has cell signal? Most of the western half of the US is a dead zone. As is much of the eastern side.
Coco, Florida is right near Merritt Island. Pretty sure they're going to have cell coverage there.

Please stop making excuses for these scum. I wouldn't ask them to jump in the water, especially if they were high, because they may not know how to swim, there are alligators everywhere in fresh water lakes in FL, but the fact that instead of going to get help, whether by cell or running to a nearby home, they sat there and laughed and mocked a drowning person, they KNEW was drowning, has no excuses.

They're disgusting wastes of flesh.

I have faith they'll outnumber the others. I think more teens were raised right and will be like the ones in the video clip I posted than the idiots in the original post.

Yes I believe you. I think most people in general are good people.

I had a car accident several years ago, a gentleman pulled me out of the car and his wife allowed me to sit in their truck. They called 911 and even offered to go to the hospital with me.

What's the reasoning behind that?

My reasoning for opposing that idea is that you shouldn't be punished by law for doing nothing (unless you caused the situation and then refused to do anything). If they actively did something harmful, that's different.

Chief to recommend charges against Florida teens who recorded drowning - CNN.com

"Five teenagers who taunted a drowning man while recording his death from afar may face criminal charges, a Florida police chief said Friday.

Cocoa Police Chief Michael Cantaloupe said Friday he will recommend the state attorney prosecute the teens under a statute that requires a person with knowledge of a death to notify a medical examiner. The state attorney will decide whether to file the charges, which would be a misdemeanor under that statute.
The chief's statement was a shift...

Not commenting on whether there should be a criminal charge.

But, the behavior of the teens was reprehensible. That kind of cold depravity is frightening and for many incomprehensible.

Its one thing to be too frightened or lack the ability to take action to rescue, but, its a totally different thing, a sad and horrible thing, to stand there and film and mock a person as he/she struggles for his/her life and dies.

That's sickening.

Just evidences again that many of us humans are nothing more than hairless apes.
