I probably would have. Why not? There's no reason to not get swept up in the mood. Why not clap/cheer on the president and whatnot? That's what people generally do. They cheer on the speaker. You generally have to say really, really, awful things for that not to happen. He didn't say anything really, really awful...just pretty bad.
And the yacht comment was slightly above nothing. In my troop, one kid brought porno mags. When we were about 14 or 15 someone brought a murder mystery book in which a serial killer raped and ate women. It was extremely graphic. The scout read it to us and called it "story time." If mothers don't want their children hearing things like that, they should keep them as far away from other 12 year old boys as possible, IMO.
Because it is wrong in an APOLITICAL organization like the Boy Scouts of America were until Monday July 24, 2017. That day they cheered someone and basically turned into the Hitler Youth for Trump voters. And this comes from an Eagle Scout who started as a Tiger Cub. Without even checking, I KNEW the BSA were apolitical. The program on a whole has a black eye from this week.
I'm trying to understand why Scout leaders such as yourself found it acceptable. Why they stood around while the boys entrusted to their care were an "enthusiastic and vocal" audience at was was obviously a political rally.
