I'd prefer it if the southern red states just seceded. Let's see how well they do without the blue states subsidizing them with our taxes (which they've decided to raise).
The southern states already tried to strike it out on their own but the northern states wouldn't let them. And the South has a large group of people who are overwhelmingly blue. Should they move to the blue states if the red states secede?

California really isn't more "progressive" than the South is. Hell, I bet we could substitute Alabama for large chunks of California, and we wouldn't notice a difference.

I used your post as an example to illustrate my earlier point that "blue" staters who blame the South for Trump's election should really take a closer look in their own neighborhoods. So much for "progressive" California.

The Left can't stand Trump and conservative. The Right can't stand Hillary and Democrats. We are increasingly refusing to be governed by what we view as the heavy-handed policies of the other side and I can see bloodshed coming in the future (I know the Left already considers it, and, if Obama was just a taste of what we could get if another Dem got in, I could see our side starting the shooting too.). If we cannot seem to agree enough to stay together, perhaps we should split right down the Mississippi or something.
Or perhaps we'll give the Democrats the West and East Coasts and we'll keep the Midwest and the South. You get Hawaii and we keep Alaska. Sound good? We'll even let you add Peurto Rico to the Democrat States of Amerika. (And you can have Chicwalkee, another state formed from the union of Milwaukee and Chicago.)

Shut down FOX News and and MSNBC and we will be OK again. Those on the left will once again walk around yelling to themselves about injustice, and the right will settle down into unconsciousness with a 12 pack of Bud.
Let the left have commifornia, it can unify with Mexico and turn into the third world country it deserves to be. They can have the northeast too. The rest of us can then live in peace from their stupidity and insanity.
The tax cuts for the middle class go away in 10 years. The cuts for the rich are permanent. We are already heading for third world nationhood. Many of the provisions of the New Deal are out of date, and they are after the rest.
And, if we start getting a little too uppity like the French did in 1790, the rich drive to the airport and take their private jets to Geneva, Monaco, or anywhere that they have a house or own a hotel.
We'll keep all the big blue cities in the red states as well! It'll be a financial disaster for the red states!

I think its inevitable , we were never very united of a country to begin with, so splitting down party lines wouldnt be that difficult, I believe within 50 years we will split into 2 countries,its up to us to chose whether it will peaceful or violent.
I say, let the South secede. Give all the smart, educated, secular, gay, disabled, artistic, nonwhite, “different” people one year to escape to the North and West. Let the South devolve into a medieval Theocracy. The North and West can finally become a civilized modern society.
