But let's use your figures anyway - if 122 were apprehended trying to enter illegally, that's about 1/4. I think it's safe to assume that some entered who were not apprehended. Regardless, at least 1/4 of the caravan tried to enter the US illegally. I don't know why some people think that's acceptable.

As noted in your first article those in the caravan in April were told they wouldn't be let in anyway even though they presented themselves at a legal port of entry as we were full up trying to process so many and that they'd have to wait in Mexico until we have openings to process more. What makes the people in this caravan think that's not going to be the case again? As with the April caravan many of this one will just enter our border illegally anyway knowing full well we'll have to process them anyway. We need to pull out all the stops to see this doesn't happen again especially since there was so much weeping and wailing when their kids got separated from them according to our laws.

Already there are less than 7000.

More will drop off by the time they get here - just like always.

Th plan is to present themselves at a port of entry and ask for asylum.

Third migrants’ caravan scheduled to leave El Salvador within the next week

The number of migrants traveling through Mexico could soon reach 10,000

Wednesday, October 24, 2018
A third caravan of migrants is expected to leave Central America within the next week, which could bring the total number of people escaping poverty and violence by making the northward trek to nearly 10,000.

The third wave, believed to have been inspired by the caravan now traveling through Chiapas, is scheduled to leave El Salvador on October 28 and cross the border into via Tecún Umán, Guatemala, according to one report.

Right Lol. Like how they presented themselves at the southern Mexican border wall seeking asylum? Nope, they just forcefully broke through - leaving a wake of crime, trash and abandoned kids.

I dont know what people are smoking to believe thousands are remotely thinking about going to an over burden undermanned port of entry to seek asylum, when I mention up thread, its much easier to unlawfully cross the border and become part of the American dream almost instantly because of our weak immigration laws.

That is the problem. If we allow the 7000 to enter then what is to stop the next group of 10,000 or 20,000?

Will there come a time where they just swarm and overwhelm the border and burst through the fences?

My wife was watching a show last night where Lisa Ling traveled to Vegas and rode with a Police officer that was getting squaters out of houses they had no business being in. The houses were either bank owned foreclosures or they were second homes and the owner were away. Lisa Ling also interviewed some of the many homeless that were living in tents and sewers.

Homelessness is a growing problem in America and the divide between the "haves and have nots" is growing. Do we really want or need more homeless? More desperate people that have no fear of breaking the law and they will do whatever they have to to get what they want?

We have so many people in the US that are living under the same conditions that the people from Central and South America are seeking asylum from and I just think that we need to help our people first before welcoming in thousands more.

Do we need a no mans land loaded with land mines to discourage crossings at the border? Do we need a moat filled with crocodiles or how about a wall?

The problem is if one person gets injured at the border on American soil the condemnation of the world will be dropped on Trump and the Right.

The ultimate question is: Is America big enough and rich enough to accept the masses of poor unskilled people from South of the border without suffering a lowering of our quality of life?

Exactly! Didn't this caravan learn from the last one that even though their plan may be to present themselves at a port of entry requesting asylum that we can't take them in anyway as we are full up? So, you know darned well that many of them will try to enter illegally anyway. We need to be prepared so this doesn't happen again.

That's why they're gathering such an unmanageable group. One of them even said "there are so many of us that he (meaning Trump) won't be able to stop us."

Do we honestly need more uneducated, defiant people who demonstrate their loyalty goes to a different county here? And then expect American taxpayers to educate their children, provide ESOL classes, and give them free lunches?

It was different in my grandparents' day. They had to demonstrate means of support, did not expect ESOL classes for their kids, and certainly didn't think we would feed them. They were thrilled to be in America, took night classes to learn English, and asked nothing more of Americans than a chance.

There are now reports that the mob caravan will head for Niltepec in the Mexican state of Oaxaca next. If this turns out true, then the mob has chosen to head for Arizona or California, instead of taking the first viable turnoff toward Texas. There are other routes still available for Texas, but there is no sign that the mob is interested in them yet.

https://www.apnews.com/e5c391ff8a044fbe81a117c4250a7a01

According to Wikipedia, Niltepec has 1,367 households with 4,961 people (census in 2005). If that's still true, the mob outnumbers the tiny town almost 2 to 1. They'll have to turn out the entire town to feed them, and the mob will probably want additional food to carry along to the next destination. Towns like Niltepec aren't exactly rich, in fact they are often impoverished. If the mob goes there, will they have any food left afterward?
