Native Americans get reparations. Japanese-Americans got reparations AND an apology. But when talking about Black Americans, the answer is always "NO". Black Americans should have gotten them over 150 years ago. The answer ended up being "no" back then too. And no, affirmative action is not reparations. White females benefit from it. Welfare is not reparations. Anyone can get welfare.
This is how I see it. Black people didn't come to America on their own volition. Blacks are the only group who came here wtih absolutely no say in the deal. They didn't immigrate here. They didn't come here as indentured servants. They came as basically permanent captives. And their descendants would be born as slaves. At least 200 years of slavery. Japanese-Americans can get reparations and an apology. And don't give me that crap about "well, the ones who should get them are dead". The heirs of those imprisoned got them. Why not Black Americans?
To the bolded, you are absolutely right. In 1865, every single living ex-slave should have been paid for their labor, retroactive to the time they first landed on these shores, with the payments coming from the slaveholders, calculated according to how long they had held each slave. That this wasn't done was a grave oversight and an historical injustice to compound the injustice of slavery itself.
But, regardless, it didn't happen. Sorry to sound callous, but sometimes life ain't fair.
Now, though, if they try to squeeze out money from people who had absolutely nothing to do with the slave trade, based solely on the color of their skin, and give that money to other people who had absolutely nothing to do with the slave trade, based solely on the color of their skin . . . if that isn't a recipe for setting back race relations to the depths of the Night Riders and Bull Connor's dogs, I don't know what is.

Consequently, I'd wager you have about as much chance as getting reparations as the Latinos do America surrendering the Southwest back to Mexico.
Does not matter that blacks will not be the majority.....we are used to being the minority. Whites, on the other hand, are not. Things are not going to being going the way you want them in the not to distant future. Maybe by then, however, you will have Mars ready for colonization.
200 years after Mars has been colonized.....little green men will be asking for reparations.
