I think to a lot of Americans this moreso looks like Democrats desperately trying to help themselves next year.
What I mean is: they're saying Trump's motives in asking Zelensky to look into the Burisma/Biden was just to help himself politically, but really, I think this entire thing was to stop a scandal from forming around their frontrunner and "most electable candidate" Joe Biden.
We know the whistleblower worked for Joe Biden at one point. We know his lawyer is notedly anti-Trump and a Democratic operative. We know prior to even filing a whistleblower report, this individual went to Adam Schiff's staff. Not to mention the fact that that the transcript of this call was circulated around, which is against protocol.
I think there probably is something corrupt or at the very least unethical going on with Joe and Hunter Biden and Burisma and certain people know it and this was a Hail Mary to keep it from coming out. Because if it does, it will hurt Joe's chances of winning the Primary, or if he beats the odds, it will give Trump the 2020 version of "Crooked Hillary": somebody who has been in D.C. a long time who thinks the rules don't apply to them who is only getting over because they're Democrats.
It might have worked too, but again, Democrats are overplaying their hand.
Is it? Is there truly anything wrong in asking a foreign country to investigate corruption in their country before handing them millions of US taxpayer dollars? Are we simply supposed to hand over taxpayer dollars to corrupt governments?
Bribing a foreign official (with US taxpayer dollars) to drop a corruption investigation into a company that employs your son certainly is....
America knows the above is the 3rd re-write that the WH and Trump apologists are utilizing, but fortunately it is only sticking with those who have no interest in truth and facts and the integrity of our Constitution. However, it is still a very sad time for America when so many decide to wage war on the facts and truth and the institutions that have served this beloved nation for so long. Shameful and sad.

How is asking the Ukrainians to investigate the Bidens personally profitable to the president? If the investigation clears the Bidens, it doesn't do ANYTHING for Trump. If it finds the Bidens violated law, it's the Biden’s illegal activities that will benefit Trump.
Progressive Democrats/Democratic Socialists are PURELY Communists, by doctrine and practice. Part of their SOP is to LIE CONSTANTLY. Fortunately many of their lies are totally idiotic and unbelievable. Their relative intelligence level is QUITE low. I am gleefully watching their self-destruction.

Trump didn't care about corruption last year when he released the aid to Ukraine. Why was this year different? It's because he wanted dirt on his political opponent. You can't do that as president. Doesn't matter to you or others though. And if the Dems lose, they lose. They at least did the right thing in uncovering Trump's abuse of power and corruption. Not that it matters to the GOP or Trump supporters.

Since the accusations against the Bidens has been debunked, he can look to be sued for libel in the future. Good.
But Trump is guilty of trying to get a foreign government to persecute a US citizen, that is always wrong. Regardless of who the person is, it is always wrong for the president to turn on one of his own.
I wouldn't want him to do it to me and you wouldn't want him to do it to you. That's not what we hired him for.
Beyond that, Trump is guilty of trying to get a foreign government to persecute a US citizen on no evidence whatsoever, he is actually demanding the foreign government find some evidence!
If the thing was legitimate the US government would be sending evidence, not asking for evidence.
What is particularly troubling is how Trump has embraced a separate and distinct false narrative which has been traced back to Ukraine's rival, Russia. That's right, Trump believes a phony story concocted by the FSB to discredit it's rival and put distance between our nations. Putin is doing everything he can to destabilize Ukraine and isolate it from any potential friendly allies. Trump is playing along, wittingly or not, who can say?
But the biggest offense is that Trump was trying to influence the election by concocting a false narrative he could play up at his rallies, namely that there would be an investigation on 'the Bidens'. It didn't have to be a real investigation, all that is important is that the electorate THINK it is a real investigation, so it had to be publicly announced, so Trump could use it to hammer an opponent in public.
So Trump was faking a scandal to use in an election, and he was dragging a foreign country into it as his prop. This is not the first time Trump would be taking advantage of foreign help in an election, it is part of a pattern. The man is irredeemable.
