SOTU is a real waste of time no matter who's President, and I rarely listen. It's just the emptiest of partisan pandering and posturing - basically a stump rally with nicer decor. Call me when there's bipartisan talk of real decisions on real issues.

Trump supporters that are talking about the "shame" Pelosi should feel for ripping up all the lies Trump spewed last night should reflect on the shame that Trump has bought for over 5 years. He has mocked Gold Star families, disabled, service members, kids etc. He has lied about nearly every thing including his numbers on the economy, approval ratings, Obama, Clinton, FBI, healthcare, immigration etc. He is in love with dictators and ignores allies. He has scammed charities and veterans. If anyone should feel shame, it's the people that support Trump. Pelosi showed restraint. I'm sure most of America wanted to do more than rip up his lies. They will, they will turn out to vote in record numbers. Good for Romney for voting to convict Trump on his lies and criminal behavior.

I just checked her out, and she really does seem to be a moderate -- in which case if she ever runs for national office, I might very possibly support her -- not that a moderate could ever win in today's climate!

From the following link (my italics and bold): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyrsten_Sinema

"Sinema has been described as a centrist or moderate Democrat.[98] According to National Journal's 2013 Vote Ratings, her votes place her near the center of their liberal-conservative scale.[99] The National Journal gave her a composite ideology score of 57% liberal and 43% conservative.[100] According to the Bipartisan Index created by The Lugar Center and the McCourt School of Public Policy, Sinema was the sixth most bipartisan member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the first session of the 115th United States Congress.[101] She has cited U.S. Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, as a role model.[16] She was one of the most conservative Democrats in the House of Representatives during her tenure.[102]

"In 2015 and 2016, Sinema did not vote for Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House.[103] In 2015, she voted with the majority of her party 73% of the time.[104] The conservative group Americans for Prosperity gives Sinema a lifetime 27% rating and the conservative Goldwater Institute gave her a 35% in 2010 when she was a state legislator; the progressive Americans for Democratic Action gave her a 60% liberal quotient.[100] In 2017 she voted in line with President Donald Trump's position approximately half the time][105] According to Five ThirtyEight, as of January 2020 Sinema voted in line with Trump's position on legislation about 54% of the time.[106]

Yep, definitely not one of "The Squad"!

I noticed this year that there were very few advertisements for the SOTU address this year. After last year's stellar address, it's no wonder the media was keeping it under wraps.

HR3 the bill that the Ds in the House passed to lower prescription drugs. Mitch ditched it!

https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-...s/house-bill/3

Quote:
Introduced in House (09/19/2019)
Lower Drug Costs Now Act of 2019

This bill establishes several programs and requirements relating to the prices of prescription drugs.

In particular, the bill requires the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to negotiate prices for certain drugs (current law prohibits the CMS from doing so). Specifically, the CMS must negotiate maximum prices for (1) insulin products; and (2) at least 25 single source, brand-name drugs that do not have generic competition and that are among the 125 drugs that account for the greatest national spending or the 125 drugs that account for the greatest spending under the Medicare prescription drug benefit and Medicare Advantage (MA). The negotiated prices must be offered under Medicare and MA, and may also be offered under private health insurance unless the insurer opts out.

The negotiated maximum price may not exceed (1) 120% of the average price in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom; or (2) if such information is not available, 85% of the U.S. average manufacturer price. Drug manufacturers that fail to comply with the bill's negotiation requirements are subject to civil and tax penalties.

The bill also makes a series of additional changes to Medicare prescription drug coverage and pricing. Among other things, the bill (1) requires drug manufacturers to issue rebates to the CMS for covered drugs that cost $100 or more and for which the average manufacturer price increases faster than inflation; and (2) reduces the annual out-of-pocket spending threshold, and eliminates beneficiary cost-sharing above this threshold, under the Medicare prescription drug benefit.
