The odd thing is that from my understanding, the fact that so many folks only have mild symptoms also makes it potentially deadlier than other viruses. There's that and also the fact that folks are infectious before they realize they are sick, so they spread it around without knowing about it. That's why most folks who know way more about this stuff than I do think we are in for a long haul
The travel ban will help, but we also need to be socially distant or whatever they are calling it today
WFH is increasing quickly, especially in one hot spot, NY/NJ/CT corridor, which greatly helps our odds.
I am hoping WH adds a travel ban into and out of the State of Washington for at least 30 days.
I'd also favor it into and out of the tri-state North East corridor.

Asymptomatic transmission is absolutely terrifying for the elderly!
Indeed. Multiply those numbers out. This is why Fauci looks so tense. He knows the seriousness of this, while too many of the people he reports to refuse to comprehend the meaning of these numbers. He's hoping they don't shoot the messenger. From what what I've seen of him, he chooses his words very carefully for this reason.
Not sure how many read this, but it's a poignant story of two young female Chinese health care workers, one a doctor, one a nurse - and their experience. It's a miserable ailment. One did not survive.
Health care workers are at particular risk because of constant exposure. I heard a doc on TV a few days ago say the degree of exposure is another factor in severity. No other explanation for very young medical people succumbing to this extent. Doesn't appear any protection is adequate. Top doc in Italy just died from CV at the age of 67. Overexposure, male, age. It was only a matter of time for him.
"Fauci is a highly decorated doctor who has contributed significantly to the understanding of humans’ immune responses. He has also developed therapies that have successfully addressed previously fatal inflammatory and immunity diseases, according to his NIAID biography. The profile also states that Fauci is the 41st most cited researcher of all time."
I know Fauci's credentials are solid, that wasn't my point. My point is whether he is still in the trenches doing science or is he in a role now where he runs around putting out fires caused by a President who has little regard for science? I assume he is getting his numbers from someone else, and who is that? The CDC? I am a little leery of the CDC after they screwed the pooch on the test kits, rejecting the ones from WHO. I worry that Trump's bullying is influencing them. I worked many years in a university research group and have more faith in those groups at the moment.

His bullying absolutely is influencing the CDC, his entire cabinet, and the GOP in Congress. Unbelievable the width of the net of fear struck by the know-nothing. US should have taken this as a serious national security threat three months ago. But, he didn't want to hear it. It was less than three weeks ago he was telling the country the 15 cases we had would go to zero.
Yes, the numbers out of Italy are awful. 21,157 cases, 1,441 dead - death rate 6.7% of reported cases. Germany's numbers are so low, I wonder if they are not reporting deaths? They've seen quite a spike in cases, however. Maybe they're doing more testing?

As more and more people are being told to work from home, do you think that this may cause a surge in the birthrates?
