In all seriouseness..can you be infected with multiple viruses at once? You would think that would happen all the time since people are weakened..but you don't seem to hear about it often.

Regarding the virus itself, I wonder what the interaction between the corona and the flu virus is. Could one fight fire with fire so to speak, by deliberately infecting people with the more manageable flu virus if that prevents the corona virus from docking onto host cells?
It's been a nasty flu season. If you have the coronavirus and it's hitting you particularly hard, you are going to be incredibly vulnerable to flu, the pneumococcal virus, and all manner of other bacteria and viruses.

As I understand it, coronavirus is a completely different type of virus from the influenza virus. Antibodies that fight influenza probably won't work on coronavirus. But what you've described is vaccination 101. We build a weak version of flu virus, grow lots and lots of it, and that's where your yearly flu shot comes from. Hopefully they have a coronavirus vaccine soon. More importantly, hopefully Coronavirus doesn't turn into another yearly visitor like the flu ended up being.

It would help if you referred to it as the Spanish Flue, even though scientists believe it started in Kansas. It helps keep things clear.

WHO Numbers on the SARS-COVID-19
  • 167 days to reach the first 100K confirmed cases
  • 11 days to reach the second 100K confirmed cases
  • 4 days to reach the third 100K confirmed cases
  • 2 to 3 days to reach the fourth 100K confirmed cases.

Care to guess when we reach 1 Million?
Care to guess when we reach 10 Million?
Care to guess when we reach 100 Million?
Care to guess when we reach 1 Billion? 5 Billion?

When we're at 1 Billion, care to guess how many will have died?

If one has not seen something it before, it can be very unsettling almost destabilizing. Hopefully the staff have been in the military and can lead the others. I am so grateful that these noble professionals throw themselves into battle to save lives. They are heroes, doing what they must irrespective of the consequences.

May they stay well.

I guess you're referring to this:

The Ford Motor Company is working with 3M, General Electric (GE), and the United Auto Workers to develop ventilators and respirators for medical professionals fighting the coronavirus. The Blue Oval announced its push into emergency medical supply territory in a press release, stating that it's collaborating "with 3M to increase the manufacturing capacity of their powered air-purifying respirator (PAPR) designs," as well as assisting in developing "a new [PAPR] design leveraging parts from both companies. "

Ford's North American product communications manager, Mike Levine, tweeted out a sketch of a potential PAPR design that uses off-the-shelf parts, including the ventilated seat fan from an F-150, a battery from a power tool, and the protective hoods worn by Ford's paint shop specialists. Ford noted in its release that such a respirator "could be produced in a Ford facility by UAW workers. "

I deliberately call it the American flu in response to the Chinese flu.

From what I heard, corona does not affect the entire population, but mostly older people. That kind of limits the total number of potential deaths.

Also, most of the world is doing a lot to contain it. In Spain, they expect the peak at the end of this week.

I don't think there will be more than 100k deaths when the first wave is over. But we need a cure and vaccine, of course, before the next wave hits us.

And we are learning from other countries, their successes and errors. So our response will become better and better.

They should be fired/voted out. Hold them accountable for their actions.

Correction: Its mostly the elderly that DIE when health care resources are adequate. That does not mean that most of the people who get critically ill are old people.

The potential death rate is far, far higher than the current estimated death rate of 1-2%. The reason is simple. If the health care system is overwhelmed, the people who need intensive care cant get it. And those are the people in their 20s and upwards.
