The reason why we need a flat curve, it gives our healthcare systems time to distribute the load over a longer period of time.
It makes sense, but the fact is that we can't handle even the flattest curve NOW.

The bigger advantage that I see is the increased availability of tests and equipment in the short term...and in the longer term more experience in treating those who have it.

These are good enough reasons for getting it later rather than sooner. No, the cure or vaccine is not going to be available this round. But if we can save thousands of people from death that's something.

Remember what this county did in the name of 3,000 dead? Not to say it worked or that they steered the angst in the right direction, but we moved heaven and earth for those 3,000 people.

you'd think the Chinese, for whom masks have been a way of life, would have done this already

Now we learn that after bungling the testing program, the Trump admin's refusal to act in the national interest is leading to absolute chaos in the medical supplies field. Everything from gloves to ventilators is being sold by hoarders who have states and hospitals within states fighting and bidding against each other. New manufacturing is lagging because there is no central processing of orders, no demand monitoring on a national scale, and no transport and distribution. The richest country in the world can't even get its act together to save the lives of its citizens. This is appalling.

Universal do-not-resuscitate policy for infected patients are being considered and likely to happen in many areas.

What a terrible situation...to know your loved one isn't going to be brought back if they stop breathing temporarily!

95% of the masks came from China.

Yes you are right it is both peaking and haphazard shut down only prolongs the virus.

Big populations India, China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, much of Europe are already already shut down.

The United States, Brazil, Indonesia, and much of Africa and South America are the big places which are not shut down.

How about naming it for the people who lied and lied, killed whistleblowers and only when this disease blew up in their faces, did they admit that it even existed. You know, the people whose denialism led to the entire planet being caught completely unprepared.

Call it the CCP Plague -- short for Chinese Communist Party Plague. After all, this is their mess. The American people don't deserve any credit or blame. The Chinese people don't either. Just those damn fake Commie Chinese Nazi bastards. This is their mess 100%. Could have been stopped dead in its tracks, but that giant pack of xenophobic racist *******s did what they always do: Hide the ball and deny all the livelong day.

Also, it was an accident, not a misdeed. I know a lot of people have difficulty in accepting that, they desperately want to blame someone.
Why are you so vigorously defending China? Even if it was an "accident", they didn't let the rest of the world know about it until it reached the epidemic point in China.

How can you defend them after what they did in Tiananmen Square? I, for one, was horrified when Old Man Bush renewed their "most favored nation" status after that debacle.

The entire world now needs to ostracize China.

That is because our President thinks the Federal govt is not a shipping clerk. He said that the other day on live TV.

I agree with you.

But Trumpsters support a guy who treated this disease like a joke for two whole months. Constantly downplaying it and pretty much all Trumpsters were on board with that. Now they complain that more should have been done earlier. But Trump is innocent and instead they want to distract people with China. The hypocrisy is ridiculous. But we all know its just a way to let Donald "just like the regular flu" Trump off the hook.
