If no vaccination is available and you rely on herd immunity and the current numbers continue, 1.4 million people will die in the process based on 100,000 deaths for every 5% of the population infected.

That is just in the US. About 675,000 died from the flu in the US in 1918 just for reference. In some cases, entire towns were wiped out. This virus has the potential to kill twice that number.

That is the reality Governors are facing. Some realize it, some do not.
Oh, I realize it - and actually I regard your numbers as being conservative. The difference is that I prioritize the vitality of the economy, and the quality of life of the survivors, over the effort to "save lives". 1.4M dead, out of 330M total, is less than 0.5%. Let me be absolutely clear, and absolutely blunt about this: that loss of life, should be regarded as the cost of doing business. Even if it turns out, but some unfortunate happenstance, to be a higher number - it is still ultimately the cost of doing business. And to reiterate my statements on the topic: if I myself happen to be among the costs, not only do I accept that possibility, but at this point, I outright welcome it.

I'm so glad to see the poll numbers. It's good to know the whole country hasn't gone insane.
