Yes as any elected officials should after the primaries in March/April. Arizona had 151 down 80 in the March presidential preferential election. Wisconsin had long lines a month later in April. Kentucky closed their polling places when voters came to the door in Louisville in June. Lots of hinkey things. I am glad I vote by mail in AZ I avoided a lot of mishaps pre-Covid and now in the time of Covid.

Don't worry, I knew. You didn't though. It was aimed at the people who are whining about this USPS conspiracy theory because they are afraid to go to the polls with their masks on, yanno, like deep down inside they think masks don't actually work or something.

This post office story is nuts. We’re watching Trump intentionally destroy the post office in real time after admitting his motive for doing so.

There are stories all over the internet about sick people not getting their meds, old people not getting their pills, unemployed not getting their checks, etc etc. The USPS is how over 1,000,000 U.S. military service men and women will vote from out of state.

All because Trump is INTENTIONALLY trying to sabotage the postal service to help him win the election.

Anyone who still supports this fat orange turd should be ashamed. Trump is literally trying to undermine democracy by making it as hard as possible for people to vote by mail during a pandemic.

Right?
you can't defund what you haven't funded though.

I mean, I know it's been a day since I looked at this topic. I'm sure the high-minded, like the OP, have discussed the major problems with the Post Office, and how they might be fixed.

*they're not allowed to change prices
*they were required to unusually pre-fund pension obligations
*anything else y'all feel is overall hindering their ability to perform.

Do we have a "right" to get our mail every day? In this connected age, is once a week OK?
Where are the slowdowns in the mail system? Pickup/delivery, postmark/process, moving among postal centers? Do we really need 31K post offices (which happens to be 1 per 100 sqmi)? Do we need 1 postal employee for every 250 addresses?

I don't know - but look forward to catching up on the discussion

we apparently are paying way too much overtime, though I wouldn't say that's the PO's root issue.

There are many, many, sources on this, so if you don't like this one, just 'google' Trump USPS. These are his words, quoted. Not some media spin.

The facts include that Zero tax dollars used. The Postal Service receives NO tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations. So let's just put that propaganda lie to the side.
https://facts.usps.com/top-facts/

Whether you are for or against the legal right to mail-in voting. Whether you believe the unsubstantiated lied that voting fraud is going to happen if we don't abolish this right. Can we all agree that his admitted goal of restricting voting rights is not aligned with American values or the values of our founding fathers?

For those that support Trump, what is your justification for him abolishing a HUGELY successful part of our government, just so he can restrict votes to win an election.

And for those who wish to answer another question, what is a reasonable justification for him appointing a Postmaster who is heavily invested in the competition of the organization he is supposed to lead? How is that not a conflict of interst?

Please keep your response civil. You can have strong opinions without calling names. If you think I'm wrong in what I said, let's here a decent explanation of why (not just "lefties" or "socialism"). The USPS is a vital service to Americans, it does not cost our tax-payers, and it is being used to suppress voting. How am I wrong, or how is that OK.

respectful disagreement to the front of the line...

Didn't hear the part where he says that he is trying to prevent mail in votes getting delivered.

Listened to it twice.

Another thread title to nowhere.

President Trump isn't outlawing mail in ballots. Sure, anyone who wants one can get one.

BUT he's not going to fund the USPS the EXTRA funds to process the massive influx of mail in ballots, and thus the ballots won't be processed in a timely way, and of course everyone wants their ballots processed in a timely way.

It's a dirty trick, sure. And that's politics. Check point?
It's politics for sure, and some from both sides. I believe the request purely for mail-in voting is $3B. Or probably $15/ballot. But the House has neither passed nor demanded $3B. They're looking for $25B.

The STATES set the rules for voting. We don't have all 50 states that have instituted mail-in voting. There is NO national mail-in voting program. So why should there be $15/ballot or worse, $120/ballot?

Lets see how all those folks who get their meds via the mail feel about this.

how is that folks wouldn't get their meds? How many people does this affect?

How many small businesses rely on postal delivery, and for what?

if the post office said - your "free shipping on vital meds" won't get there in 3 days, it will take 7, what do you think the medication providers would do?

Now, if a small business - or anyone - is paying for 2-day USPS shipping, then the USPS should be getting it to the destination in 2 days. And if they need to increase the rate, then do that.

But even with working 12 hours a day and Sundays in some districts and breaking every maximum hour rule in the process has shown we just can't pay overtime to power the way out of the problem since one guy can only walk or drive so far.

All the proposed changes would do, is to change SOP from wait for the last piece to cut off and go and work the last piece the next day. Because holding everything for the last piece results in paying entire units overtime as they waited on the previous unit to release their truck. a

For election day itself carriers out past the last dispatch truck taking collection mail back to the plant potentially would have a few ballots left over. But everyone is acting as if a special accommodation can not be made for election day as it always had been made for election days and Christmas eves before COVID staffing shortages made it impossible to service every mailbox 6 days a week. And for elections when it comes down to recounts most counties understand that even at 99% efficiency something might get lost or delayed and count the late ballots

The problem is every other day of the year when postal supervisors all manage as if handling cost is irrelevant those last few letters cost a lot. And the Inspector General sends out forces to try to find those last few letters because they don't care about cost either. I have lost count of the number of times a last piece from Amazon cost $40 in my penalty overtime salary alone to get out before 8PM in rush hour traffic. But being a political season folks thinks everything is about election day and not turning the entire service around to accept a cut off time as SOP.
My point is if I noticed anything in the past few months, it is about the same as normal. If anything is different, it is slower like say Christmas package season delays. Could it be different elsewhere, sure. I just know that my mail delivery hasn't been any worse than normal except maybe Christmas season. Still far too many election mailers than I have any business getting. All end up in the trash regardless if it is Democrat or Republican.

As stated I typically am a delivery day or two later with dropping off a mail-in ballot to a post office. It typically is in three weeks prior to the start of mail-in counting (which is typically the week before and when mail-in ballots are due to be post-dated.) If you don't have your ballot figured out by the mail-in cut-off, you should vote in person because most people have their minds made up by the second debate the latest. This election, unless some bombshell is dropped, I'm sure most people have their minds made up right now.

As for mail-in voting, I can say that I never had an issue even with it. I had one in-person I think 2008 or 2012 with the stupid fill-in the arrow ballots Arizona had. They thankfully changed it prior to the 2020 state primary election. Now we gone to a more intuitive bubble. Why it wasn't updated sooner is beyond me. If you had a stray mark on the arrow, it was rather buggy on machines. I have never got called in to have my signature confirmed either. Most times, my single vote didn't matter as most races are several thousands of difference.
