We saw money going to those who were not affected by job loss due to Covid, we saw businesses taking advantage of loans, we saw the monies going to pork barrels and we saw people not returning to work because they were making way more on the UE supplement.
Lets just throw some more money at it, that always works.
precisely.

As I linked yesterday, more than half of the last stimulus wasn't spent on things that do squat for the economy.

Surely, some of the reason was smart moderate-income people waiting (saving) to see if they would need it later. And many did.

But a too-large portion did not, and DOES NOT, need "free money".

what I said is so indicative of the disconnect that's going on with you and I.

I said the MEDIAN was $16/hr in the state. That meant HALF earned > $15/hr. Now you say I claimed ALL.

Is it clear now?

Now, my post reverts to my last point.

Even if ALL of us needed a $1,200 stimulus, that's less than HALF of the proposed bill.

Yep big debt.... like WWII. Which is what finally pulled us out of Great Depression. Problem wasnt that FDR spent too much, he was too conservative. The war forced HUGE DEBT and great demand for factory goods for war effort. The WAR is what primed the economic pump.

Course anymore it might just pull China out of doldrums since we make all our money doing each others laundry, cooking each others food, and financing Chinese and Mexican goods. The wealthy dont seem to make enough from agriculture and manufacturing and mining, they want to do it the easy way and let the Chinese do the hard work.

btw, the UE benefits weren't outrageous, but they were excessive. At least we agree (I think) that folks shouldn't get more to stay home than to work.

But shouldn't we try to pay them right at 100% of what they were earning if not for Covid?

Maybe these folks should send it back or maybe donate it... to a worthy cause that's helping people in need.
Maybe they can use it to help an elderly mom, dad, their child or other family member who is struggling.

There are many in need.

I just curious how YOU know that this large group of people didn't need the money????

Did they tell you???

Friend,

First of all, based on my impression of you, I doubt that you're in the income level that received a $1200 stimulus check in April.

and, second...

You're right. There is a disconnect between the two of us.

You're probably a really smart guy... and, FYI,... I haven't always lived in rural Missouri.

I once was the Closing Secretary in a large real estate office in a major city that had 35 Realtors, 2 owners and a manager.
The corporate office was upstairs from our office.

I bet you're a great realtor...

In general, I truly hate it when people come across as feeling superior and who speak to me in a condescending manner.
More than that, it's more than a little difficult when someone tells me the truth about where I've lived for the last 10 years - or my personal experience - when they have NO idea where I live or what they're talking about.

Is that clear to you?

I honestly don't...

Truth is,... I don't agree with MOST of it.

The purpose of this thread is that NOTHING has been done since April and SOMETHING needs to get done.

The sooner, the better!

Again,... I say that the simplest solution is often the best one.

And, the fastest way to get the economy going....
I completely agree with what you posted. Hopefully Nancy Pelosi will finally accept one of the many deals she has been presented. Hopefully she will be held accountable for denying relief to millions of Americans.

Made me sick when i read that Joel osteen received millions in PPP. meanwhile your neighbor who has a small taco place, is going to get killed and shut down. they will get fined $5,000 for having the gall to be open to serve humble tacos.

SO EFFIN RIDICULOUS!!!!

This has gone on long enough.

Throw out the entire Heros Act and get something done!
