I can easily imagine the backlash if a single woman with three kids decides that is enough. No more. So, she vows never to have sex unless birth control is used. But it fails, so she gets an abortion and is charged with murder. She pleads not guilty but is found innocent and has to go to prison for let's say 35 years. Her 3 children are sent to foster care. But I would find it hard to believe any jury would subject a woman and her three kids to such a verdict. Maybe it will be hard to find a jury willing to send a woman with a good background to prison over an abortion. But somebody may want to bring up that people have gone to prison over fetal homicide laws.

I predict states that most support the death penalty, such as Oklahoma, will take the biggest chances with triggering backlashes, even before the 2022 elections.
They have already proved they are not smart. Most of the laws on the books pre-Roe or the so called trigger laws if Roe is overturned go into effect automatically or within x days.

They won't be able to stop them unless they pass new legislation which wouldn't be popular with their base.

They are stuck with this war they have decided to wage on women and the whole country is going to see it clearly for what it is.

Very few care. Like I said, only 6% of American voter respondents in the very recent Harris Poll indicated abortion was an important issue, It ranked at... only the 22nd most important. Best to turn your attention to Biden's ruined economy.

Like I said, if states can restrict specifically enumerated Constitutional gun rights, and they do (even red states do), they can also restrict any perceived right to abortion.
So Mississippi woke up after after 50 years and decided they needed to move the threshold from 1st trimester to 15 weeks to eleiminate around 4% of the abortions because....?

Texas wants to move it to 6 weeks, so they needed to let Mississippi slide and all would be fine, no more challenges to RvW, you actually believe that is the case. You are of course ignoring the many, many constant challenges, there are around 10 other states just waiting for their moment.

Um... 15 weeks is BEYOND the first trimester.

One poll this far ahead of midterms is meaningless.

Yep lots of guvs sitting tight to see what happens with these two cases before they show themselves to be the woman hating people they are. They know there will be a tsunami sized backlash.

Let Biden's economy and inflation get even worse, then we'll see who cares about what.

Depends what part of the economy someone cares about and what's going on at the time they vote.

Lots of things could change leading up to the midterms. Most things economic today are supply/demand issues tied to the pandemic. Few people are stupid enough to think a President of any party has a significant degree of control over that.

And like I said, EVERY woman understands what a child can mean for her economically.

So a 60 year old grandmother who is past child-bearing years may have had an abortion 30 years ago and may think that she would not have been able to achieve the success she has had she been forced to have the child. She will likely want to ensure others have the same right the had. Will it be her #1 issue? Who knows? Likely fir some and not others. But in most cases it will be relevant in a way it has not been in the last nearly 50 years.

Well said and very true of women I know.

It's a point that seems to sail over the heads of many anti-abortion folks.
