It's not necessarily a bad thing that Biden, or any other president, doesn't know the details of how to get the job done. Their role is to set the strategic vision and then let the military leaders figure out how to implement it. I was flipping around on SiriusXM and some liberals were complaining about Biden and not just the current fiasco. They were saying that his Chief of Staff Ron Klain is nicknamed the Prime Minister. Would Pompeo have given any value to the memo from Kabul Embassy people that city would fall overnight or would it be perceived as yet another seditious memo from people within the Deep State? Would any of the Trump Admin. have admitted the possibility the country would be overrun in a week?
Would people like Stephen Miller even care about our Afghan partners - interpreters, etc.? CNN reports tonight US/CIA has been using choppers the past few days to fly inland and pick up some of these people.
Trump/Miller hate people from that part of the world. I can't imagine either of them would give one fig about breaking our promises. To them, this would be just one more world issue - like NATO, climate - that he would walk away from leaving them to their fates.
Trump had a short date of withdrawal date of 5/1 - there was no way to do proper planning to (1) determine actual number of Americans and their locations to be evacuated; (2) actual number of Afghanis and their locations to be evacuated; (3) get proper paperwork SIVs, et.; and (4) find international partners willing to take these refugees.
This evacuation plan, to run smoothly, would require expecting a worst-case scenario, and six-eight months of preplanning during which time we are evacuating slowly and methodically and should have begun even before Trump left office - if he intended to meet that 5/1 date without catastrophe.
You really believe Trump would have the patience, foresight, and willingness to do this?

The blood of every person hurt or killed because of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan is the direct result of the failure of the Afghan army to fight. They were babysat for almost 20 years. At some point the US military was going to leave. It didn't matter if it was 2010 or 2025. The only difference was how many American and other allied lives would be lost, and how much money would be wasted
