Nothing new about that.
No, the Russians were experimenting last winter with shutting down the power infrastructure but decided not to do so at that time. Now they are actively shutting down Ukraine's power grids, likely in response to the attacks on them. This is definitely new.

“This is the largest attack on Ukraine’s energy sector in recent times,” - Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko.

Yes, many generation facilities (X-101, Iskander) and electricity distribution (geraniums) were hit.

It is already known for certain that there are arrivals at the largest thermal power plants and hydroelectric power stations in Ukraine (DneproGES, Ladyzhinskaya, Burshtynskaya, Zmievskaya TPPs).

Presumably, the Pridneprovskaya and Krivoy Rog thermal power plants were also hit. Several smaller generation objects were also affected.

Donetsk direction - the situation on the morning of 03/22/24...

Yesterday the Russian Ministry of Defense officially announced the liberation of the settlement Tonenkoe. which generally completes the displacement of the enemy beyond the ravine of the Durnaya River.

It starts in the area of the settlement. Berdychi continues to flow south between Semyonovka on one side and Orlovka and Tonenky on the other.

Now the eastern bank of the river is firmly under us and our airborne forces and ground weapons are intensively working against the enemy in Berdychi and Semyonovka.

The most dangerous direction for the enemy and, accordingly, promising for us is Berdychi and further to Ocheretino. That is why, after the Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves left here for other dangerous areas, it was here that the enemy concentrated the main efforts in defense... leaving Tonenkoye and Orlovka to their mercy (which ours took advantage of).

Same time RAF returned to advance on Chasov Yar. RAF is next to entering the "Kanal" microregion of Chasov Yar.

David, your turn.

Sometimes it is not "how much" money is given as it is "what" is given to assist Ukraine.

The remains of an ADM-160 missile have been found. The ADM-160 is an expendable missile that can mimic all sorts of other aircraft and even project false explosions. It is launched into unsafe airspace in hopes of attracting either ground fire or air-to-air fire, thus exposing enemy aircraft or ground facilities, which are then attacked by the real deal.

There is a real danger if Russia is somehow destroyed. After all, they are a large provider of energy - at least for now.
Many months ago it was revealed that the idea is to bleed Russia slowly. They could be obliterated next week if NATO wanted. It's better to let Russia discover by itself that it has entered yet another war it cannot win.
The problem now is, Russia cannot stop - they would have to retreat from all areas including Crimea, unless Ukraine allowed them to stay there. No one really sees that happening.

A power of Russia. They produce items that are essential to the world. People need oil, gas, fertilizer, and grain. Isolation of such a country just doesn't appear possible.

Let's be honest. The only way Ukraine is even able to attack those refineries is due to Western assistance in terms intelligence and weapons. So it may be ironic they are being told to stop as you state, but at the end of the day when you are dependent upon another country, you're limited in your choices.

If they could have been destroyed so easily as you mentioned, NATO would have done so. After all we seen what they have done to nations that are perceived as weak. The fact we have these endless debates and "will they want they send troops, aircraft, etc.) says it all. The slow bleed theory is nonsense. Just a way to mask failure.

maybe, maybe not, but that is exactly what Loyd Austin (sec of defense) said in April of 22..

Quote:
“We want to see Russia weakened to the degree that it can’t do the kinds of things that it has done in invading Ukraine,” Austin said.
