That's why some people expect Ukraine to eventually prevail against Russia, just like Afghanistan did.
Invading countries is hard work. Doesn't look like the Russians are up to it.

They would not have tried to attack from many different directions in depth because of their paltry 1:2 odds attacking forces. An attack from different directions would have forced them to spread their small forces too thin and opened them up to attacks from superior Ukrainian forces. And supply and logistics would be much more challenging as well. So, no, the Russians could not have easily encircled those fortifications unless they quadrupled or more their existing attacking forces. Their probing attacks from those other directions were just distractions to keep as many Ukrainian forces as possible away from Donbas where the main action was taking place.

question....what do you suppose happened to the Russian journalist that did that wonderful piece about how great and valiant the Wagner group is doing against Ukraine, even visiting their command center in Pompasna and posting pictures along with his report....upon which Ukrainian military forces readily geolocated and destroyed with HIMARS missiles..and Putins good friend, the leader of this group was killed in the attack which left nothing of the building except a pile of rubble...this has got to be in the top ten of stupid mistakes the Russians have made in this war..lmao..keep up the good work!!!..

That's not what is going to happen. Defending countries is also hard work. Many people ignore that Ukraine is also taking losses. Very heavy losses that are far greater than Russia's. Ukraine will run out of personnel and materiel far faster than Russia. It is the Ukrainians that are not up to it, despite Western assistance. And once the Donbas fortifications are completely breached, the Russian rate of advance will rapidly accelerate. Zelensky better get his Miami mansion in order. He's going to need it soon.

Yet, that looks exactly like what they attempted to do.

Sounds like an incompetent mess.

Actually, no. Since the Russian force was so small, it would have been folly to try something like that. The Russians did feint in different directions but to distract from the main Donbas offensive. It was a well executed psy-ops.

And the Ukrainians weren't able to push back the outnumbered Russian forces from Ukraine and could not encircle them with their large army and destroy them. So it does sound like an incompetent mess. For the Ukrainians that is, in not being able to deal with a smaller Russian force and expel it from their country.

You pointed out Vietnam rebuffed the US and it looks like Ukraine is going to do that to Russia. Vietnam lost more men than US and still won, so I guess it really doesn't matter how many men Ukraine is going to lose.
Ukraine will be provided with weapons for as long as they want to fight, just like the Viet Cong were supplied.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had forgotten a lot of that even though I was there for the '68 Tet offensive.

Ya wanna bet? Go ahead and save it. I will too and will pull it out when it's all over. Facts are what are important, not spin.
