Censorship is common when lives are at stake during time of war.

Allow me to correct the terminology, from censorship to false narrative; as to why we are even involved in this conflict.

The answer of which I have posted several times in this lengthy thread.

Fighting Wagner is like a ‘zombie movie’ says Ukrainian soldier

https://www.cnn.com/2023/02/01/europ...cmd/index.html

Quote:
“We were fighting for about 10 hours in a row. And it wasn’t like just waves, it was uninterrupted. So it was just like they didn’t stop coming.”

Their AK-47 rifles became so hot from constant firing, Andriy says, that they had to keep changing them.

“It was about 20 soldiers on our side. And let’s say 200 from their side,” he says.

The Wagner way of war is to send a first wave of attackers that mainly comprises raw recruits straight out of Russian prisons. They know little of military tactics and are poorly equipped. Most just hope that if they survive their six-month contract they can go home rather than back to a cell

“They make the group – let’s say from 10 soldiers – reach 30 meters, then they start digging in to keep the position,” Andriy says of Wagner.

[…]

“Our machine gunner was almost getting crazy, because he was shooting at them. And he said, I know I shot him, but he doesn’t fall. And then after some time, when he maybe bleeds out, so he just falls down.”

Andriy compares the battle to a scene out of a zombie movie. “They’re climbing above the corpse of their friends, stepping on them,” he says.

“It looks like it’s very, very likely that they are getting some drugs before attack,” he says, a claim that CNN has not been able independently to verify.

well seeing as how any part of Ukraine is not Uncle Joe's to give to anybody, I see this as a mere ploy to try and placate Putin for a bit while sending more $ and weapons to Ukraine..

It might have been a suggestion, we have seen similar suggestions right here on the forum. That is how negotiations go, people say things and they either gain traction or they don't. The USA could have also suggested Russia give up Belgorod for a peace deal. That's just how it goes.

I would not be surprised if the idea was a non-starter. The USA can not 'offer' any part of another country, so I think the article title is misleading, and that could be because of the way the sources worded it.

The danger of a negotiated settlement is, of course, the war will begin anew some other day. The best way forward is to impoverish Russia.

The dissolution of The Soviet Union in 1991 came about when the Soviets ran out of money. And they ran out of money when the price of oil collapsed in 1986 - it collapsed down to $11/barrel. It bubbled along at $20 or less for some 10 years or more and in the interim the USSR simply ran dry.
The problem was, USSR was drilling in tough places like Siberia where few people live and conditions are harsh. Everything needed for the drilling site has to be brought in, from people to food to technology. It's tough and expensive.
Now Russia faces the same problem. The scale is different but it's the same problem. Putin has destroyed the oil market for Russia, which means the very expensive pipelines will soon be abandoned. If the wells themselves shut down it will be disastrous. They likely will never be restarted.
The estimated cost of production for today's Ural oil is $42. Most of Russia's customers no longer have to pay even that much.

Being a "one trick pony" is dangerous. And that's what Russia has been.

Why offer Russia this deal if Ukraine is going to win this war??? Besides, the territories of Ukraine are not Biden's. He cannot just wheel and deal them away. How does Zelensky feel about this? Probably not very pleased about it. This is also bad optics. It makes it seem like the US owns Ukraine or thinks that it does. Other countries are watching and will act accordingly. A significant US credibility hit as I see it.

At least we realize it now rather than later.

1 billion people under just NATO alone, and the corresponding sized budget should be able to make up for any deficiencies.

Might be time for the US to go back to the doctrine of being able to fight two major wars at the same time.
