I was wondering how long it would take for yet another thread started by an American with Canada in the title would descend into the usual stupid nonsense offered up by the usual posters.
Didn't take long if you count the post #6 by Thulsa which to be fair might have been sarcasm.

Dem owned and controlled companies could easily let their workers unionize if the wanted. Did they - nope. The federal govt. is the biggest union of all and we are taxed to death because of it...
its usually Americans who “know”’Canadians and Europeans who claim those places are a mess. You rarely get actual citizens from those countries first hand experience on here.
So you think Canada is better than it was in the 1950s or 1970s? So you think Europe is better than it was in the 1960s or 1980s?
Both ARE being destroyed. I don't know how you define it if you think life in the EU and Canada is better than it was 30 years ago, or 50 years ago.
Tech is better everywhere, but freedom, privacy, property rights, prosperity, peace? I don't know how you are getting your information. Maybe we just interpret the information differently. IMHO, Canada, Australia, and the EU are slowly being destroyed. All of us.
All such rankings are skewed by what is considered freedom?
Is gun ownership a freedom or danger to society?
Is abortion on demand a freedom, or is it murdering a child?
Is legalized marijuana a freedom, or a danger to society?
One man's freedom is another man's oppression. I would bet dollars to donuts, that what most Europeans attributed to freedom in 1960 is vastly different to what modern Europeans consider freedom today. When I was living in San Francisco, what the SF electorate considered freedom was tyranny to me.
Fact is many European countries have more personal 'freedoms' than that of the US. The reality is that Switzerland is the 'land of the free'.

Tell me how the "freedom to trade internationally" is a freedom? Its great for international corporations and China because they are not stuck having to hire Americans. But it means we are stuck buying items made in countries with the cheapest labor. And can't compete with them domestically because of that.
Security and safety. We have the freedom to protect ourselves. Most other countries have to rely on the government to do so. And if you live in rural America, law enforcement won't get there in time. You have to be able to protect yourself.
I disagree we would not be like European socialist countries. We do something they dont do in very large numbers. And that is we have a virtual open border and allow millions of uneducated, needy people across our borders. It is a lot easier to have strong social welfare systems when you have a population that shares the same culture/language and work ethic. Bernie Sanders has for a long time now been America's most visible supporter of an America with a European style Socialist society has said that himself
Fact is I've posted the 2022 Freedom Index, 'others' on here have just stated something that their mates told them at school! Fact is Switzerland is the worlds 'most free' nation and Switzerland is in Europe.
New Zealand, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland and Canada are the next most 'free' countries, the US is the 15th 'most free' nation on the planet, one behind the UK at 14, so still 'pretty' free but lets stop this chest thumping 'freeist nation on earth', 'if it wasn't for us you'd be speaking German' propaganda rubbish shall we.
I never trust people who put out most lists like this.

I am not a fan of leftwing politics. I believe in limited government and American freedoms. However there is a chorus on here from MAGA's and others outside of CD that the left is so dangerous we will end up destroyed or a banana republic or full blown socialist if the left has their way.
However the left is in power in Europe. Scandinavia is very left wing. Canada is also. Yet they are not destroyed. I don't want us to be like them. With socialized health care, high taxes and less freedoms. But if the left did win here we would be more likely like Scandinavia not Venezuela. Norway or Canada has not dismantled capitalism and implemented Socialism. Why would it be any different here?

Agree. I am soooo sick of these ultra-right wingers ranting "America is being destroyed! Democrats want to destroy America!" Such a bunch of hogwash.
And yes, Dems that say Republicans are destroying democracy are also full of it.
But I truly don't understand the Republican philosophy on this forum. America is destroyed, it is a hell hole, everything is terrible! Then I look at Europe, which appears to have better quality of life and better healthcare than the US. But Republicans say we should fight tooth and nail to avoid becoming like Europe???
So I went back at the title of the thread and after reading all the posts it really comes down to what you define destroyed or not. It seems some Americans if they get free healthcare, free college, and so on but live under a government that actively monitors and censors them and tells them they have no say so what the government teaches their children they consider themselves high on the freedom index
I'd say that puts it real low on the freedom index.
