How would it be fraud? Illegal? You just said that homosexuals can marry a person of the opposite sex any time they want to, to illustrate how they have the "same right".

There's nothing illegal about marrying someone and not living with them, so you have no valid argument against the scenario I described, where a bunch of gays and lesbians pair off in hetero marriages for the sole purpose of accessing the BENEFITS of hetero marriage, yet living their lives as gay people. Do you?

Gays and thier families (spouses of the opposite sex and children) are already given the same access to SS and other Fed and state benefits as straight families. If we allow same sex marraiges it gives legal access to partners who the benefits were never intended.

In the end it is all pointless until the public actually accepts gays has equals in marriage. Until then it is a feel good law that does nothing that civil unions does not really. Peole who approve of gay marriage will recognise it and those that don't will not.

butt

If its going to cost me one dime I will be voting such issues and politicians that support these issues down
You know, interracial couples who get married have marriage rights that are paid for by all of us too. Why don't you go on a quest to outlaw those?

Better yet, why not abolish marriage completely? You'd be rich!

this post addresses nothing concerning the discussion at hand. I also find it offensive as I am in an interracial marraige and have two AmerAsain children.

A new study released today by the Christian Science Monitor hints at a correlation between the weak US dollar and the rise of homosexuality in America.

Pat Robertson was quick to embrace the Monitor's findings:

"As Bush's casino economy folds, there is a downward pressure on the dollar causing the gayness per capita to go up. We've undoubtedly seen a spike over the last eighteen months, this is no coincidence."

It's ironic, that Bush's weak dollar brought out more gays, but that's just how these things work.

Back in the day a girl would hop on a wagon, or on the back of a horse to head out in search of land to settle on with the ''broke dollarless man she fell in love with'' to spend the rest of her life with him if they never found a dollar to their name trying.

Whatever happen to that? When a man and woman wanted each other for richer or poorer, better or worse.

It's still out there, just harder to find folks that'll settle living within their means rather than trying to live above their raisin'.

Dad always said buy land and pay for it first, a big house in town won't feed you, I taught you to live off the land son. Luckily, my wifes family had the same outlook on living, and we been happy nearing 17 years.

I drive a fuel-efficient domestic sedan, work out daily, bleed red, and listen to Coldplay. I have received the Employee of the Month Award twice, volunteer to pick up litter, donate to a center that cares for mentally- and physically-challenged children, and shop for a needy family every Christmas so that they, too, can enjoy a day of happiness. I have a 3.5 GPA and a 1300 SAT. I live in the suburbs, just like most Americans. Gasp...I even attend church!

Was my point to brag? No. I wanted to merely illustrate that we "weirdos," as another member up thread referenced myself and my fellow members in the LGBT community as, also lead pretty normal, mundane lives. I highly resent the fact that as a gay person I am not only expected to pay the same taxes as everyone else, but I am also expected to lay my life down for a nation that treats me as a second-class citizen. There are many more "weirdos" out there than one would think. I may have been the only openly-gay male in my high school, but since advancing into college I've met many others not unlike myself, as well as having had the privilege of being the first "confidant" for those from my community who opted to finally "come out" and lift the huge burden off of their shoulders.

Pray tell, why shall I notice tomorrow that the check deposited from my employer into my checking account via direct-deposit is short a very large percentage that were provided towards our government's treasury, only to be redistributed to others who receive more privileges than I do? Let's see what causes more financial panic---the life partners of gays/lesbians drawing from social security, or, in a show of solidarity, all LGBT individuals in this nation, many of whom are quite affluent DINKS (dual-income, no kids), withholding their taxes.
Awesome post, thank you. However, as we all know, there will soon be sharks circling in for the kill & your honest & well thought out post will be shredded in the face of "jesus" & "god" & "the bible says it's so"...give me strength.

Go to Canada or something, you guys should stop fighting the world. Just because a few hippie countries in Europe have legalized gay marriage along with pot doesn't mean the other 200+ countries should do the same. I hope we stay 'backwards' with our gay marriage policy like the rest of the world when compared to Europe. Most countries deem gay relationships to be a capital offense. I am not that extreme, but I think it's wrong. Europe is just too emasculated, not for me, but probably just fine for you guys. Goodnight.
