The fact that I smoke has nothing to do with who I am, it is simply a habit that I have and I choose to continue.
strange , its like a time warp, like the clock has been turned back 20 years. Where, beside the casino is smoking in public (stores, malls, restaurants, bars, 0k.?

smoking in this country is a mixed bag at best. Walgreens still sells smokes., so do a lot of gas stations. almost all the smoke shops in the malls have quit business because smoking is not in fashion. i am glad i quit when i did, . for all of you that want to bring back smoking, take a look at what you are saying , its so outdated and impossible to go back, try another subject.

Smoke at home. It's simple.
"that risks the health of everyone exposed to it"
I find it ironic how many make that claim and NOT ONE SOLE responded to my post #177 which debunks the study about 2nd hand smoke, INCLUDING YOU.

Most people , like yourself, do NOT want to now the truth so you ignore it which allows you to keep making the same ignorant claim.

I gladly smoke in my house, but you have people that complain that the neighbors' smoke drifts over to their house if the windows are open and causes their house to stink.

If they ever totally ban cigarettes, I'll start a campaign to ban booze. At least you can see the cigarette smoke and avoid it, unless of course you're walking through a designated smoking area. How many drunks are out on the roads killing people everyday? I get disgusted and throw up in my mouth when people pour a bottle of cologne on.

My brother hates smoke and will blame us if he ever gets cancer. He has never exercised a day in his life, he has high blood pressure, diabetes amongst a host of other health problems that can cause cancer. He eats out at greasy spoons 3-4 days a week. As a matter of fact, my sister has threatened to start smoking so he doesn't drop his lazy butt at her house for the day. hahaha

We're all breathing in toxins everyday, along with eating all of the chemicals that are in our food today.

I can respect your opinion, but I won't quit smoking because someone tells me to. That makes me want to smoke more. I'll quit when I decide for myself that it's time. Ok, enough of my rant, time to light one up...

The article you posted is being put out by the "Smokers Club Inc." I wonder if they have a bias?

Anyone can take a few select lines out of a study and quote them out of context to make a point. The science that proves second hand smoke is deadly has been settled for decades. There are hundreds of peer reviewed studies that concluded it causes cancer. It's not even under debate anymore. So you can stop with that sillliness.

I still find it stunning that some people will just outright reject science when it's not convenient to their agenda.

How dangerous is it for a non smoker in a smoking environment compared to a smoker in a smoking environment?

It depends on the environment you are in. If the smoker smoked like a stove pipe and inhaled ( as in Cigarettes and not cigars ) That person will more than likely die from his habit , and or compilations.
Being in close quarters, as in a wife or child, you would be put in a higher risk group . Cigarettes are most always inhaled, which will involve the lungs first,. Cigar smokers, especially fine expensive ones, are not inhaled deep into the lungs. The problem is so many cigarette smokers first went to filters thinking that was going to save them, then it was menthol ........when they found all that was not working, some moved over to cigars, but their habit did not change, mostly cheap cigars ( with about the same junk in them , glue , paper etc as in cigarettes, and they inhale them too, could be worse that just cigarettes and they spent their whole life stinlin everyone around them ....not the answer.

what surprises me is the limited amount of no smoking condos, coops and apartment building nationwide.

In Manhattan even existing condos are voting to ban smoking. Meaning, on property, in hallways in your units, on the terraces. When they do that property values rise, insurance rates fall, less complaints, less cleaning, better for folks with allergies and asthma.

Lonnie Anderson the blonde Bombshell on WKRP in Cincinnati never smoked and had the lungs of a twenety year two pack a day smoker.

She was raised by two pack a day smokers and by 18 she was exposed to four packs a day of smoking for 18 years.
