I find it fascinating that the Drill Here Drill now don't have the slightest qualm regarding picking in favor of non-renewable technology and renewable technology all in the name of national security but raise their don't tread on me flag when it comes to issuing fuel efficiency guidelines.

Anyway, from the link. What the "job creators think"

The Detroit News reported Wednesday that major automakers like General Motors, Ford and Chrysler are expected to endorse the 54.5 mpg by 2025 plan, while Mazda has said it opposes the proposal. Executives from the major automakers are expected to join Obama for his announcement Friday.

Ironic, because a crash involving to compact cars is less likely to result in a fatality than a crash involving two SUVs...

This is not an impossible goal. In the 80's I owned 2 different cars that exceeded 40mpg. In 30 years we haven't improved? Built technology that is better than a carbureted engine?
6 speed transmissions and fuel injection alone are huge improvements.

Until electric and/or hybrid autos become price competitive with their gasoline-powered competitors, they're megacolossal wastes of resources and investment $$$$$.

What this blockheade cannot seems to comprehend is just because he raise CAFE standards DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE HAVE TO BUY THEM!!!!!

And when Americans refuse to buy them because of their exorbitant price tags, THEN WHAT???????????

With the ongoing debt, deficit spending and monitization of same, along with a likely credit downgrade resulting hin higher loan interest rates, average Americans won't be able to buy new cars at all.

We are getting what we can out of engines now, so they can only shrink cars and make them less heavy, which makes them more dangerous.

This is going to kill lots of people in the name of green politics.

How about all the world starvation they are causing with higher prices and less available crops by using corn for fuel? They are insane IMO.

Then they say go electric, but you plug it into a socket and that electricity came from coal and fuel and the batteries are more toxic than anything around... Stupid Stupid Stupid.

GOP folks did not object when the EPA was set up under Nixon, or when Bush 1 required improved mileage, or when Bush 2 did the same thing.

We agree! I think any country that intentionally burns its food straight from the field is a candidate for the Darwin award. It has been proven time and time again that "green" is about money, not about being environmentally friendly.

No President is using regulatory agencies to kill jobs like this one; as long as he continues to hover over the ecconomy in such a suffocating manner, nobody's going to hire anybody, and the unemployment rate, which is actually in the mid-teens, is bound to go higher as well.
