Oh tell me about Macon, Athens, Madison, and Savannah.

Lincoln exploited slavery? Lincoln was very late in abolishing slavery.

First off, I'm an American and I have no need to put the word our in quotation marks when discussing my country. Confederate soldiers were our enemies. If you don't feel that way, I have to question your patriotism to this country.

Those who fought for the Confederacy were Americans*, they fought America and were thus America's enemy, then they became Americans again. I have no issue honoring those who served America in the former or the latter periods on Memorial Day, but I absolutely do not accept honoring those in the middle for serving the Confederacy.

*For the nitpickers, "America" refers to the United States of America and not the Confederate States of America. Memorial Day is to honor those who served the United States of America.
