People vote for their own pocket. That's the way it is, and it has nothing to do with being Democrat, Republican, stupid, nor smart. It seems that some of you have your minds made-up and only see yourselves in the picture, without realizing that a great majority of Americans oppose Obamacare, simply because nothing the government does does is free. Who do you think is paying for government spending?
No, they really do not and that is really pretty stupid. If they really did, republicans would only get 1% of the vote.
It is run by the government. Our government is not supposed to be running anything but the government. People can choose which insurance company they want to deal with or they can form a co-op with friends and choose none of them at all. My husband worked for a national comany that found out it was cheaper to be self-insured.
There should be no health care bill in the United States of America Congress. The constitution does not allow that. Is is socialism pure and simple and we are not yet a socialist state and some of us are going to see that it does not happen.
Good lord, do you realize that there is such a thing as Medicaid? It's nothing short of socialism. Thru this the government gives medical care to poor people free of charge. Since you are being forced to pay for this through your income taxes are you for abolishing Medicaid?
Poor conservative people would rather fend for themselves as much as possible. Poor liberal people want the federal government and other tax payers to take care of them.
Someone said if people really understood the full extent of the power we have available through prayer, we might be speechless. Our prayers are the most powerful assets we have.

if the federal government puts their, our, money in the program then they can take over and run the program.

The health care bill being proposed is not single payer or socialized medicine. It just expands private health insurance by providing government $$ in the form of subsidies to help people who can't afford private health insurance obtain it.

There have been similar studies, and IIRC there was one that focused on the Scots/Irish folks of Appalachia, who will be contrary just to be contrary. These are the people who fit that classic "country boy" stereotype of fighting over anything and then shaking hands and having a beer with you.
But there are many more reasons, my favorite being the racism that pervades much of this country, the south in particular; the usual red states. Yes, good folks in many ways, but stuck in a rut that has been generations in the making. I know people like that, they think the government only wants to do things to help black people, that's why the tea party people and Palin fans we see on TV are mostly white haired white people.
I always have been under the impression that democrats and people on the left are more racist than people on the right. Particulary southern democrats.
Conservatives are basically people afraid of the world & very insecure about the future. Weak people even will vote against benefits for themselves because they would rather keep things the way they are.
How so very true. Conservatives pretty strongly want to keep bankruptcy wide open as a means to cover one's costly medical bills, because that way they can be assured that the government isn't going deeper, yet, into paying for someone's medical bills.
Thomas Frank has written a great book on this topic "What's the Matter with Kansas." He starts the book speaking about this same topic namely the poor farmers who do not even realize that the same people ("Conservatives") they keep voting into office are the same ones selling their land to agribusiness.
