Why do poor conservatives vote against social policies that would benefit them? (interview, salary)

Conservatives believe they are entitled to their own hard earned money whether it's a lot or a little but do not feel entitled to the incomes of others and so are very uncomfortable with the government confiscating anyone's money. Also, Conservatives believe that hard work may some day pay off, that low wages can be temporary and so don't want to cut their noses to spite their face.

Liberals believe they are entitled to the incomes of others. They believe that those who work hard should never profit but should suffer because it's more fair that those who don't work have more than anyone.

liberals support minimum wage laws. this diportionatley hurts blacks because they are the least educated (liberal schools). Minimium wage laws eliminate millions of entry level jobs.

liberals passed the law that forced judges to sentence crack smokers to longer jail terms than cocaine users. (I beleive joe biden wrote that law.)

liberal support affirmative action. That is clearly a racist policy. if you use it your a loser. if your good enough you dont need it then you get lumped in with all the other losers. Why should a university be forced to accept a student when they know that student is going to flunk out? Why not go to a schools that one can excel at. I dont see white kids that cant make it at Yale be allowed in because of skin color. That white kid goes to Penn State instead. That way he can graduate. it's racist to set up people for failure because of their skin color.

liberals forced banks to loan money to minorities to buy houses they couldnt afford. Over half the foreclosures in this country are minority owned houses. No reason to think minorities cant manage money as well as a white person so it must be govt policy.

liberals want to keep giving welfare money to mothers that have children out of wedlock. Even though 70percent of all blacks are born out of wedlock. Which almost cements a future of poverty. Why pay people to engage in behavior that dooms them to poverty?

liberals nominated barack obama for the presidency because he is clean, articulate, light-skinned and doesn't speak with a negro dialect. Thats what liberals have said anyway.

But the most racist thing I think I see liberals do is flee to the suburbs the second they have kids. LOLs. All this talk about diversity and raising the kids color-blind. And what is the first thing they do when they have kids? Move to the suburb so little Mary doesn't have to associate with a black kid. At least republican parents are straight up about it. They'll tell you they moved so Johnny could go to a good school. Libs come up with some nonsense about wanting access to the park or a front yard or something to make themselves feel better about their racism. But they are real happy to try and make republicans feel guilty about doing the same thing.

Those are just a few things that come to mind. i'm sure there are plenty more.

It also amazes me that libs just throw around the racist word at every opportunity. "every conservative republican is a racist" George Bush hates black people" and all that nonsense.

Then they cant believe when it someone calls them on their own racism.

What have liberal policies done for blacks anyway? The great socoety was started 40 years ago. Are blacks any better off? I think they are worse off? You cant balme republicans. They haven't passed anything to help blacks like the liberals. You cant blame the blacks because there is no reason to think they cant make just as easy as whites or asians. must be all these racist liberal policies.

To be fair, two people in my home receive some form of government help. The first is my 84 year old father-in-law who receives help through social security and the VA. The second is my wife who's back condition is so bad she's been declared disabled and can't sit upright or stand for more than an hour or two at a time on a good day. On her bad days all she can do is lay in the recliner on the heating pad while taking flexeril and lortab which helps the pain only enough to allow her to actually sleep through the night. My father-in-law worked until retirement and served in the Navy. He worked for a living until he was no longer able to work. My wife worked until the pain and spinal problems forced her out of the workforce. She's on disability which helps with her mounting medical bills. It goes with an old Christian value of "the lord helps those who helps themselves". You help those who do what they can for themselves or can no longer help themselves.

To the OP, maybe they don't want government handouts because they have pride. Maybe they don't vote for handouts because they only want a hand up.

Too funny. Lived in the south for a few years - the only place I've been where the KKK was able to roadblock a major four lane highway so that they could hand out literature to drivers. This was decades after Brown vs. BOE and the Civil Rights legislation of the 60s.

The key word in the Op post is benefit THEM. It doesn't seeming occur that it may not benefit the nation as a whole. Theft benefits the person but not society. The title should be why are conservatives not greedy when something would personally benfit them.

In the case of health care, a plan that covers everyone IS in our best national interest. It gets health care costs off the back of private industry and puts it where it belongs, in the tax base; one for all and all for one. Foreign auto makers don't pay health care costs for employees, U.S. automakers do, and it puts our guys at a competitive cost disadvantage of about $1500.00 per vehicle. No wonder GM is broke and no wonder many of our factories went overseas where they don't have to pay such costs. If they stay here they are undercut by cheaper foreign-made goods from low-wage, no benefits nations.

Yet somehow a lot of people here in the USA fail to see the benefit of a taxpayer based scheme. The ironic thing is that we pay for it anyway, via the price of cars and such, but shifting the same costs from industry to taxpayers has people all cranky and pouting. Taxes would go up X but the price of cars and many other things would come down and even it out, generally. I have no doubt foreign money is being pumped into the USA to keep the scare tactics on TV and fund the vocal opposition to reform, and the effect of that money is to keep foreign firms at a cost advantage against our own firms.

As a nation we need to stop letting people whipsaw us around with baseless fears of big bad government yadda yadda yadda. Social Security and Medicare run just fine on about 5% overhead, while the insurance companies eat up 20-25% of every health care dollar that is pumped into their greedy crooked hands. As a nation we've got to get over the racism that motivates a lot of people to oppose reform, for reasons stated earlier in this thread.
