This whole discussion is a moot point--because in the end Israel usually gets what they want from us. Sure we might scold them about a settlement or two or tell them to wrap up their latest invasion of Lebanon promptly, but full support of Israel is one the third rails of Ameican politics. Just like military spending, most politicians don't want to touch that one with a ten-foot-pole.
Just try to play nice Israel and you'll get your shiny new jet fighters...courtesy of the American taxpayers.

America first. Israel can kiss off like everyone else. Anyone who doesn't like it (equivalent to hating America), can leave right now on the first flight to Tel Aviv and start a non-profit where you can VOLUNTARILY give money to the country's cause, or you can enlist in the IDF. I will not participate in your closet socialist policy.

But once again. Egypts foreign aid is tied directly to Israels as part of carters Camp David agreements between Israel and Egypt.
israel has done a terrible disservice to the united states, which has sent them billions of dollars, and their flat out refusal to budge on the settlements could cost american soldiers their lives. as long as we fighting, (which i still think is flat out wrong), we have a DUTY to protect OUR soldiers.
Each new report of settlement expansion, each new seizure of Palestinian property, each new West Bank clash between Palestinians and Israeli troops inflames the Arab street, humiliates our Arab allies, exposes America as a weakling that cannot stand up to Israel, and imperils our troops and their mission in Afghanistan and Iraq.
As this message has now been delivered by Gen. Petraeus to his commander in chief, Obama simply cannot back down again. If he does not stand up now for U.S. interests, which are being imperiled by Israeli actions, he will lose the backing of his soldiers.
U.S.-Israeli relations are approaching a "Whose side are you on?" moment. Either Bibi backs down this time -- or Obama loses his soldiers. (pat buchanan)
Stop blaming the Israelis for this. We have been using them as a beachhead in the region for 60 years. They are fighting for their existence, we are financing to remain a presence.
Additionally, If Iraq is a success then Israel won't be as important.
Still it doesn't surprise me that lefties have no problem with the collapse of democratic societies.

There was an interesting news story on German TV yesterday, I could only understand part of it because they talk too fast!
It seems the world is questioning the US allegience to Israel at all costs, including the possible destruction of a good part of the world.
Did they say anything about our allegience to Germany/Europe???

Israel is one of the richest countries on earth, has a very good trade surplus with the US and EU and gets the lion’s share of US aid dollars. This is totally insane. (supkis)
i will go further than that and say that the US is not in a position to be borrowing money to give anything to other countries! we are told that a "strong" israel brings stability to the middle east, but i am not seeing this stability.......
