Why do those who continually rail against gays and proclaim how they mock and displease God not understand the effect their words have ? Do you truly think there is no connection between the 24/7/365 haranguing of how sinful gays are, how evil their lifestyle is, how they corrupt society , and some religious nut feeding off of this and doing something like this ?

They know exactly what they're doing. But they also know that their measure of hatred isn't acceptable, so they pretend to oppose such slaughters.

I'd love to believe these types of atrocities will open the door to more public and civil discourse on the notion that one's faith is beyond scrutiny....but alas I can't subscribe to that level of wishful thinking.
