Some people ought to be very careful about complaining about facts and truths.

Exactly right. They were not facts to begin with, or truth. Again, they were mistakes. We humans have made many MANY mistakes trying to discern what are facts and truths, but the mistakes don't change what are facts or truths. Ever. It's only our ability to correct our mistakes and/or our ability to recognize what are actually facts and truths that changes. Ideally, it's our ability to get it right that changes/improves. It's to that end the scientific method helps us along.

The proposition the earth is flat was EXACTLY the sort of MISTAKE I am referring to, along with a good many such examples provided in the past. Perhaps the best you can do is say this is uncertain, but most of us can do better than that.
