in_newengland,
I am sorry to hear your husband passed. It sounds like you experienced a very trying couple of years. I hope, sincerely, that you take especially good care of yourself.
Today he died. He'd had a stroke two years ago and it has been all downhill since then. I think he probably lost the will to live. Ended up in the nursing home a couple of months ago and then got covid. I don't know what really got him--he was doing better though until the covid struck. They said it affected his lungs and then, yesterday, they did more scans and found that he'd had another stroke. At that point I knew it was hopeless and there would be no point in trying to keep him alive on a ventilator anymore. He was 83 though. Just hard to believe that he's gone.
So sorry to hear that. Please accept my best wishes.
Got the results of my chest x-ray. Will be getting a CT and pulmonary exam. I'm a bit worried. Both of my sisters died from lung cancer. I did not take up smoking other than trying it out. But sisters were both heavy smokers, as were Mom and Dad.
Lung nodule, pulmonary problem, interstitial disease. So I'm a bit worried. I'm not afraid to die but not ready for that yet. Are we ever really ready for it?

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope that your memories of happy times together will bring you some comfort. Take care of yourself during this difficult time
Many many thanks for all the good wishes. I have gone to the funeral home today and then next week I hope to spread his ashes at sea as he wished. I have been in contact with his son back in the UK and it's really helped to have him to text back and forth with.
What everyone said is so true, that it's hard to believe, it's a shock even when you know it's going to happen, it changes everything. I am stepping down as a mod on CD because I only started it way back when he was waiting for immigration that took two years. It gave me something useful to do. Now it would only be painful to continue. But I'll come here as a regular poster to "see" everyone again.
NYgal1542, I wish you all the luck with your health. We all do the best we can and that's about all we can do.
in_newengland: Your love and gentleness are so evident in your post. You are someone I have long admired. I hope you do stay as a regular poster> I've learned a lot from you.
I'm glad his son is staying in touch.
Thank you for your encouragement. Re health, you are so right.
