When I heard that people in Alaska are coming down with the newest virus, it gave me pause.

The CDC did say that people who have had covid and/or the vaccine are more susceptible to this variant.

Based on what CDC knows now, existing tests used to detect and medications used to treat COVID-19 appear to be effective with this variant. BA.2.86 may be more capable of causing infection in people who have previously had COVID-19 or who have received COVID-19 vaccines.

Which basically means everybody is more susceptible, since 99%+ of people in the US have either had COVID or the vaccine or both!

What?

I was not aware that 99%+ have either had COVID or been vaccinated.

I only know a few people who were vaccinated.

So unless someone got it completely asymptomatic and is unaware of having had COVID, I think that maybe 50% of the people that I know have not had COVID nor have they been vaccinated.

That is kind of to be expected. You live in a rural area and rural areas were more resistant to getting vaccinated.

I got one shot of J&J over 2 years ago. CDC reports on Pfizer/Moderna. They wrote off J&J a long time ago.

I was in the clinical trial for the Oxford/AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1-S [recombinant] vaccine) COVID-19 vaccine, which wasn't even approved in the US!

What they are saying is that people who have had covid and/or the vaccine are more susceptible to this variant than to earlier variants.
