You should probably move down south, you'd be 5 times as busy with these posts!

Ah, silly me. You don't do this thread for places you actually LIVE. That would make too much sense.

Louisiana's murder rate is on topic with rising violence in Providence?

This happened yesterday afternoon, broad daylight. Couple was set up for a clothing sale and they got carjacked at gunpoint. This is was at the Advance Auto Parts on Smith St., also right next to the Aldi. My guess is you shop at the one on Pontiac, but half & half shoppers should take note and exercise due caution when in that area. I believe Popeye's and Cheng Du Taste is also right there.

Again, violent crime is not on the rise in Providence, contrary to the implication of the thread title and the regurgitating crime blotter poster here. Looking at individual crime reports from the news isn't a sensible way to determine whether crime is rising or falling, but it is a way to sensationalize crime.

A more sensible way to determine whether violent crime is rising or falling is to look at statistics for the year and make comparisons with prior years and/or long term trends. The Providence Police publish such data. The most recently published report as of this writing, for the week ending 8/7/22, shows that the overall violent crime rate is essentially the same as last year, so far. But better than comparing one year to the next is to compare the current year to long term averages. When compared with the five year average, violent crime is down 9% year to date. Homicide is 1/3 of what it was at this time last year, and 1/2 the five year average. The reader can view a PDF of this data here.

The reality is that violent crime is down. And a comparison of Providence to other cities shows that Providence is a safe place.

The OP never lets the facts get in the way of smearing Providence.

To any newbies who may stumble on these redundant copy/paste crime posts:

This thread & the many, many others like it are simply fearmongering by a poster who, it may be presumed, has some sort of crime fetish - the exact nature of which can only be left to health professionals.

His lofty protestations aside, the ultimate goal of these types of "crime reports" would seem to be to trash certain neighborhoods & urban RI in particular. Why this out-of-state poster has chosen Rhode Island is anybody's guess. Likely, some sort of grudge or agenda. Perhaps both.

There's this. And it's similar in Boston and every other major city. Don't tell me, frogs jumping?

Safety is relative. And Providence is safe for a city of its size. Personally, I'm extremely troubled by the recent gun violence in Boston and other New England cities. I don't think each and every crime needs to be reported here but I don't see a problem with discussing it in the abstract. Unless one prefers 30 pages of name calling. No shame whatsoever in realizing that Providence, Boston and virtually every other U.S city has a gun violence problem.

Once again moving the goal posts. Violent crime is UP over last year.

Careful. Your witch hunt for racism might lead you to discover that in Providence, Boston and nationwide, the vast majority of gun violence is taking place in "certain nighborhoods."

Witch hunt? That sounds familiar. But, anyway, an intelligent discussion of urban gun violence (or any gun violence) is light years away from the ad nauseam chronical of targeted copy/paste crime reports exhibited here.

Who is the reader to trust: Mr. Pathological, or the Providence Police Department?
