Well not all carriers are named after Presidents as the Forrestal and Kitty Hawk class carriers are not with the exception of the USS Kennedy. Also some subs were not named after states or cities as the Thresher/Permit class subs were not.
I remember that both the USS Forrestal and the USS Saratoga were stationed at Mayport Naval Base during the 80's and so we always hated it when one of the carriers was back in port as it mean't that were around 10,000 more squids now at the bars and clubs to compete for the single local Jacksonville woman
I wanted to add that i was stationed on one Adams Class destroyer for six of my eight years in the Navy as it was named after admiral William T Sampson (USS Sampson DDG-10) a war hero during the Spanish/American War during the 1890's.
I wonder if we should name a future battleship the USS Mike Tyson

LOL....good one.......I never realized the strict "criteria" for ship names and different classes etc.......how about the USS Rosie O'Donnell.....sounds like it could take care of itself.
I still really dig those badass Tomcats (F-14's) to this day that we had back then and of course in the movies Top Gun and The Final Countdown. Speaking of the movie The Final Countdown about when the USS Nimitz went back into time to dec 6, 1941 and then had to decide whether to destroy the Japanese attack squadren that bombed Pearl Harbor or to just watch it happen and not interfere with history.

is the "super laser" more for shooting down incoming missiles and creating sort of modren day missile sheild (using the speed of light with the laser) over the cairrier group acting as a defensive weapon.

Or is it more of a offensive weapon?
If it's mounted on a ship it would hardy be called an offensive weapon...

But the arrival of a superlaser for maritime defense is a potential gamechanger. It would represent a speed-of-light weapon that never has to be reloaded, feeding on a ship’s generator, to burn through incoming missiles or aircraft. And that’s not all: program manager Quentin Saulter told Danger Room in November that the Free Electron Laser can be used as a sensor, a tracker or a guidance system for a ship’s conventional weapons.
