Pammy, that was an interesting story. Sorry, I didn't make it to the So. Dak thread yesterday. My internet time was limited because I'm not feeling well. I'm not very good at this game anyway, but I sure do like to guess at things.
HMMM, UncleHarley, let me browse the net to see if I can find the answer.
If Dakota means friendly, what does Lakota & Nakota mean?
UH, hahaha I'm not having much luck. I asked the original question on Dakota because I had run across it. Then when you posted that, I went back and did a little research, what I found was all three meant Friends or Friendly. The only difference was Western, central, and Eastern/northern groups.
Guzzler, that's cute. We got WAY TOO much snow. The blizzard isn't over yet until tomorrow so the tally isn't in it. The most snow was on Wed. and now the 40 mph winds have been wreaking havoc since then.
Ahhhhhhhhhh a Spring blizzard. I remember well. Last Spring (4/4) my twins were born in Rapid City. They were in the NICU for 3 weeks and the last week, I was stuck in Rapid due to a blizzard! Thank goodness I was already in Rapid because otherwise I wouldn't have been able to visit my babies!!!
Do they plow your roads well or do they wait for solar power like they did where I lived?
HI Pammy, they're pretty good at plowing out the streets. It sounded like they worked all night last night because they kept the main streets and the emergency routes open, but everything kept blowing right back shut again. The wind is finally dying down and it looks like their work last night was a success. The county maintainers are out since early this morning, too. One of the problems they encountered was that so many roads were shut down, including the interstate so by the time the crews could get out there, they had SO much snow to move. It also depends on the amount of snowfall we get or how soon the next blizzard is supposed to be or how warm the following days are supposed to get. At two inches of snowfall, they don't bother with getting rid of it here either.
