Thanks for mentioning this. Perhaps the conservative stranglehold on Texas isn't as bad as I thought. I appreciate As Above So Below and others reaching out and telling what TX is really like. And I'm thankful for the liberals and progressives in the state fighting the good fight against these archaic wackos.

2. The left uses people and actions of the past as political leverage literally constantly. Pointing out that Margaret Singer was a class-A scum bag but also a hero to many on the left until about a year ago is fair game.
Neither of these points is relevant in my view. Again, you can't look at the differences in rates of abortions without looking at difference in underlying fertility and birth rates in that same context. White nationalists don't like abortion because it kills white babies in the context of white women having sub-replacement fertility rates. That's not true of any other race (yet) but fertility rates of other women are falling fast as well. Historically, white women have gotten more abortions than every other group and the white nationalist push against it certainly didn't start yesterday...

If some on the left just loooooove Margaret Sanger despite her being a racist, thats awful but literally has nothing to do with people of all races having the right to abort. I don't care at all how people feel in the context of public policy - what I care about are what are the results of these policies on real people that are actually alive today? Religious and racial views on abortion (or any other topic for that matter) have no place in policy imo.

Margaret Sanger was a person of privilege and as such was obviously racist. Still, nothing that you or I say negatively about her can ever take away from the great advancements she contributed to civilization.

Maybe she was in some context (eugenics) but not about extermination. Either way, she was definitely no where near the racism of the Republicans and their dear leader Trump.

Not true.
It is bad and getting worse.
Better stay in a blue state.

My beef with all of this is that Texas isnt run like the state it is, its run as a far right state. Texas is in reality a right of center state. I dont know too many liberals who are intolerant to the fiscal policies of Texas, however when we start talking abortion with no exceptions for rape, incest, or danger to the mothers life, doing away with gay marriage, or secession, people are going to have a problem. Why not simply keep taxes low, keep pro-business stances, and keep it gun friendly and just do away with crazy socially conservative stuff?

Also we cant look at each other as enemies. I dont think of conservatives or the far left as my enemies. Were all Americans and we have to figure this out together even though we sometimes dont like each other.
I just want to point out a few things.

First of all, there is an abortion exception in Texas law to safeguard the life of the mother. Should there be one there for rape or incest? Personally, and especially since the numbers for either are so low, I'd throw that dog a bone and say yes. But hey, that's just me.

Secondly, every single state has presented an article of secession to the President. Not just Texas. The vast majority of Texans do not want to secede anyway (at least 75 percent).

Thirdly, please provide evidence that Texas is trying to do away with gay marriage. The right to have or perform a same sex marriage is federal law.

To point 1, that needs to be the absolute minimum. No one should be forced to carry their rape baby. No one.

To point 2, yes I know most Texans want nothing to do with secession. Texas just screams the loudest and the GOP in this state wants to vote on it so this is different.

To point 3, see below:

https://www.chron.com/politics/artic...-17271966.php\

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/06/24/roe-...be-tossed.html

The leaders at state level want to criminalize sodomy if they can. Ken Paxton says just as much. If gay sex is illegal you know gay marriage will be too.
