I'm with that dude-- Tahiti! but fam. means a lot to me, so to stay close,,, Costa Rica is cool
Have you ever been to Tahiti?
I have, and it's not all that. It's actually a very populated island with a lot of noise from the international airport, major traffic jams, bad infrastructure, and it's ridiculously expensive. Almost everything is imported--no such thing as fresh milk, it all comes in shelf stable boxes from New Zealand and you'll pay the equivalent of $5 for a liter.
The major employer is the tourist sector and black pearl farming. When the economy goes down, Tahiti suffers greatly as 90 percent of their economy is based on people primarily from the US, France, and Japan having disposable income to spend on tourism and luxury goods.
If I could keep my same job (Network Admin) - Philippines (the island of Luzon)
I was stationed there for a few years back in the day. It's a beautiful place and I wouldn't mind the "slower" pace of living.
I even thought about retiring there, but as a single female and not knowing anybody I don't think that would fly. At least if I had a job there I would get to meet people and network, etc
