I was being facetious when I said "mountains". I know these aren't mountains but it often sure feels like it when you see how much ice and snow we have up here much of the year and how isolated we are and how cold it is compared to nearby areas.
There only needs to be a 1c difference to have a massive effect. Often the hills are layered in 1 foot of snow and because of the 1.5c difference we just got rain.
So in actual fact they aren't much colder just a degree or so enough.
Well for comparison we are about 2°C colder than Manchester (20 miles away and at sea level). That's going by the met office averages. Not hugely colder but noticeably so, as I can say as someone who regularly goes between the two places, and in winter we often get big dumpings of snow while there is none there, and ours lasts much much longer.
Driskill Mountain is the highest natural summit in Louisiana, with an elevation of 535 feet above sea level. It lies about 5.3 miles southeast of Bryceland, Louisiana. Wikipedia
Elevation: 535' (163 m)
First ascent: 1809

Well we had about 4 inches fall early January, but that melted after a couple of days. That was the only time this winter that we had measurable snow on the ground.
Oh I don't know how many days snow has stuck here but its probably something like 10 days. I don't know how many days it fallen but its a gazilion times more. Maybe like 50? I really don't know, because I don't count it.
