I had 27 in 2010 (real figures, not made-up estimates), but spread over two winters. 2009/10 and 2010/11 both had 17 days of lying snow here, not bad considering we have an average of seven.
Is it common to have snow now? I think the snow there could extend right through to May which would mean that the summer might be colder.
Are the lakes still frozen? If its still like that now then the warm up will be very slow as the snow will just reflect the sun.
It's common to have snow now, but a storm of this magnitude in April is a bit rare. The snow by this time in the year is usually melted or just about melted, and snow from any storm that does occur does not lay on the ground for long.
All deep lakes in Minnesota are still frozen this year; those here melt on average around this time of the month, although I don't see that happening any time soon.
Surprisingly I ended up with 33 days of snow lying for 2012/13 (1 in Oct, 5 in Dec, 15 in Jan, 3 in Feb, 9 in March).
Didn't seem a snowy winter to me but many were temporary coverings that barely lasted beyond lunchtime, particularly the February and March snowfalls. Also I'm in the outskirts of the city and there was an unusually marked difference between here and more central parts of the city which probably managed only about half the days I had. On the 26th January I measured 11cm but a mile closer to the coast there was nothing.
The calendar year 2010 had 62 days of lying snow in my back garden, only 3 miles from the coast. I imagine parts of inland Aberdeenshire managed close to 90 days of lying snow that year.
Oh I don't know how many days snow has stuck here but its probably something like 10 days. I don't know how many days it fallen but its a gazilion times more. Maybe like 50? I really don't know, because I don't count it.
Actual snow falling, I reckon maybe 10 days have seen snow. I can't really remember but there hasn't been much at all in the South West.
Highs in the 30s and 40s and ice storms isn't springtime weather, at least in Oklahoma. This is unprecedented.
