If you don't me asking, what made your family choose to move your area? Seems like a random place to immigrant to.

Oh, almost forgot, Boone seems even more appealing.

Well here is my family history, my first uncle immigrated to Charlotte in 1977. He went to UNCC for college. My second uncle came a year after and started driving taxis, my third uncle came in 1980, he went to college graduated and married a women from Wilmington NC.

They all lived and worked in Charlotte, my dad and his other brothers who hadn't immigrated were in Kuwait, still in high school. Once the Gulf War broke out my dad went to Jordan with his brother and from there came to charlotte where they started working. Eventually he met my mom when her family came to visit my mom's brother here. They got married and lived in charlotte up to 2007 which is when we moved after my dad got a promotion.

That's basically a summary of there moving history. You would be surprised, there are many Muslim immigrants especially early ones from the 70s who live in pretty far flung places like out here. Then there are some who are descendants of the first wave of Muslim immigration in the 1950s to new jersey and new york.

For some reason a lot of immigrants live in North Carolina out of all places. I knew some Peruvian people who had family in NC and then there's people in Chile who say they have family there too. North Carolina, out of all the places, wtf. I also have a cousin there

You wouldn't like Asheville considering how much of a conservative you are. Any where outside of Asheville would be fine. Asheville is also warmer and less snowy than southern jersey so you wouldn't like the climate. Boone is much better, cooler summers than south jersey and similar winter averages with more snow.

I know a Chilean family out here lol. I suppose that it has to do with the universities. They seem to accept lots of international students. Especially uncc, I attended my cousins graduation from there, every single student except for 4 who graduated with a masters in mechanical engineering where Indian, all from the same province too.

I thought Asheville was more of a wealthy, liberal enclave in an otherwise conservative southern area.

Not that many. % Foreign Born:

North Carolina: 8%
Massachusetts: 15%
New Jersey: 22%

Median home price in North Carolina is just under half of Massachusetts. Massachusetts income is about 50% higher, so may not be enough to make up for it.
