When Sarkozy started his election campaign last time round the first place he went was London, as that many French people work in the financial district over here. I read in a French magazine that South Kensington has the densest concentration of French people and is known as 'Froggy Valley'.
According official Britsh stat, there were 59,000 French born people in Greater London in 2009.
This number can be underestimated but the 400,000 figure is clearly an overstatement.
We know that almost the half of french living in London work in Financial sector.
There are about 350,000 jobs in the financial sector in London.
If 400,000 french would live in London, it would mean that almost the half of the financial workers in London are French.

You don't know the concept of suburbs and metropolitan area.
City proper is a wrong way to calculate the size of a city.
Lille is only in the tenth position because its city limits are very small.
If you compare the 40 km² of Lille proper with the 118 km² of Toulouse proper, there is no doubt that Toulouse will be more populated.
Metropolitan area are based on commute, not on size, density or anything else.
Better method of measure than city proper.
so by the way you calculate it, my city dundee, recognised as the fourth largest city in scotland, would then take in another 2 cities, and about 7 towns in its metropolitan area? then would become the third largest, but the actual third largest is more populated, thats not the way to calculate the population of a city, you calculate the population of a city by the amount of people staying in the city limits, not by including "suburbs" which are really towns and villages in their own right near the city
In France, the Metropolitan area system differs a lot from that of the UK or Germany, where cities are more seperated from their suburbs. This is why London often has a population of about 7.5 Million (city proper), whereas Paris has 11.2 Million (the whole region/metro area). Hence, these are very dissimilar numbers....
