Description: Portuguese first arrived on the island in the early to mid-18th century as merchant seamen or on whaling vessels. Portuguese-American heritage is the focus of the Holy Ghost Feast—a festival of games, entertainment, and some of the greatest food on the planet. Description: This controversial shark tournament has drawn the ire of the Humane Society of the United States and the late Peter Benchley, the author of Jaws, and later his widow.
