Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Bottler Did It? Yep - And A List Of Suggestions

Forget your New Year's resolutions. I've made my one and that one will be kept (and also, to a degree, not kept), and that's for me not to make any resolutions for this year. What can I do instead? Make a list of suggestions to people in this world in which we live.

Number one: Bottlers

First of all, you know how full these bottlers fill water bottles and iced tea jugs to almost beyond capacity. That's right, when you open one up to pour said...

Not That I've Paid Much Attention To These Strange Holidays, But....

Posted 01-04-2017 at 04:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

....today was National Spaghetti Day in America. That's the good news.

And the bad news?

Well, I had already planned and prepared some pan-seared pork chops. Not that pork chops are bad, but I might have liked having some home-cooked or Olive Garden spaghetti just for the sheer occasion of having something to celebrate National Spaghetti Day.

That's the problem with your writer sometimes. He doesn't pay as much attention...

Black-Eyed Peas Do Give You Good Luck

Posted 01-02-2017 at 09:04 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

As many of you may or may not know, I'm not a very superstitious guy. One crazy thing I make sure I do is that, whenever I park my car anywhere at a given time, that my odometer's last three digits do not end with 6-6-6.

Hey, now, that wouldn't bode very well when one tries to avoid the "mark of the beast". Outside of that, however, I'm really not superstitious, but the car thing can either bring good luck or bad luck.

Similar things...

Reflecting On A Major Influence In My Early Years

Posted 01-02-2017 at 08:53 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When I was a little baby, my parents always had the television set on, no matter what. I watched whatever they had on, and so, I was stuck with it. But what a fascinating time in my then-young life that actually was, the tail end of the decade of the 1960s.

As I grew older, I had an interest in playing drums, and the big catalyst occurred on that same television set that mom had on. Back then, the medium had many variety shows on during prime time hours. ...

Let Me Ring In The New Year Just For You

Posted 12-31-2016 at 08:21 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, I may not be Dick Clark, but the late great legend can be here in spirit as I welcome you to (almost) the New Year! While some of you are out there partying it up, either dressed up or way down, others are going to be watching the ball drop on TV in a few short hours.

I look forward to 2017 and the many good things it hopes to bring. We'll laugh. We'll cry. We'll remember. We've got the comedy and the drama that is life and you and I will make some great...
