Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

So Much For Sabbaticals -- City-Data Just Too Addictive

Posted 05-14-2015 at 03:44 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Once upon a February 1, this writer was taking a sabbatical from posting on this wonderful website. I had been just burned out and was tired and needed time off to refresh and regroup. You know, when you post here, sometimes, you just can't stop. In the case of said sabbatical, it had been something that I needed to do. I tested myself to see how long such an endeavor would really last.

Apparently, not very long.

Gradually, I posted once...

Mission Control, The (Eagle) Cardinal Has Landed....

Posted 05-10-2015 at 02:40 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Okay, I didn't take off into space, but instead, something beautiful came out of the sky and landed on my car. That's right; it happened right in front of me at the cusp of the windshield right on top of one of the wipers. This was right as I was starting my car and leaving work for the day.

It was a little cardinal. A redbird, if you will. Just a beautiful little creature taking a respite from flying and spending his break on my windshield. It was all...

I-69 Update: Just A Rumor, But Not A Priority Yet

Posted 05-08-2015 at 08:12 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Could South Texas see another interstate connection along the planned I-69 route through the Lone Star State? Well, it's just a thought now, but this could be considered at some point.

I've got a link to the I-69 Facebook page, and there are mumblings of a potential route through the ports of Corpus Christi. Take a look at this.

Message To TXDOT: Leave The Pierce Elevated Alone

Posted 05-08-2015 at 08:03 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

By now, some of you fellow Texans out there may have read stories about Houston's planned widening of Interstate 45 through North Houston. That project also includes a controversial plan to refunnel 45's traffic along I-10 and I-69 around the north and east sides of Downtown Houston, respectively, and part of that includes a possible dismantling of the Pierce Elevated, I-45's current connecting stretch from the North Freeway to the Gulf Freeway through the southwest part of downtown....

Kool 98: The Last Of Texas' Great Oldies Stations

Posted 05-05-2015 at 03:54 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It was probably the last one standing, since many markets have seen transformations of radio stations that once played '60s music into '70s-'80s formats. Until about three years ago, a station in Lubbock, however, still played the oldies the way they were meant to be played.

KKCL-FM (98.1), previously known as Kool 98, used to have an extensive playlist of tunes, the big hits and the songs you never hear anywhere. In fact, there were songs I'd never, ever heard...
