Talking Moving to Nome!!

Well I have read over some of the posts on here and must say that this is a great way of asking a few questions. My two friends and I have decided to moved to Nome summer of '09. We currently live in Florida and I know it will definately be a climate change. I cant wait till my hair doesnt frizz anymore, it will just freeze. lol. On a serious note we are going to visit for a week before we make the move to check things out for sure i.e. housing, jobs, costs. A friend of mine lives there now and says that there are plenty of jobs but the housing will be a little difficult. Anyone have any ideas or advice as to what we should be looking for or checking up on during our visit. I already have my resume printed out .

Thanks!! Shelly

your moving straight into the bush? I dont know about the job thing, unless you want to work for a mine. And housing around here probably isnt like anything you have lived in before. And i'm not talking abotu the cozy little drycabins we have in fairbanks either.

Hope your a drinker! lol

Here's my advice: Go there in the winter (early to mid January would be perfect if it's possible for you) to get a feel for what it's like there when the weather is chilly and when there is still considerable darkness. Just what you would do there I don't know...

I'm sure you'll figure everything else out...and good luck.

My crystal ball is showing a small case of culture shock in your future.
Keep an open mind, and go with the flow.

Thanks for all the replies! Yes, we are definately going to visit in Feb for a week. I know I am very excited about the chance to experience different culture and atmosphere. I've been looking into this for about 6 months now. Keep the advice coming I truly appreciate everyone's input as I am born and raised Floridian who has never seen snow. Yeah I know, I must be crazy! LOL.

P.S.- Yes I am a drinker =P

Once your in Nome the price of booze really doesn't matter. You gotta have it and you'll pay any price..
