identifying as visayan is not same as national identification....identification of visayan is meaning you are visayan(by blood/ancestry/culture) through and through
you can be filipino and be of any race...but visayan has a history.....a culture....a way of life that has been cultivated over centuries...it is an identity we carry with us where ever we go
if a visayan woman marries outside...their children would be half visayan...and learn about being visayan before they learn anything about being filipino
my cousin lived overseas with other filipinos...but he didnt date or marry any of them...he went back home to the Philippines and married a visayan woman from his hometown...that is how strong it means to be visayan
do not connect being visayan as the same with being thai

A lot of Visayans do have Chinese ancestry. The most complete family tree I have ever seen was that of a student from Antique (Western Visayas). She made it for a class in university. She was of fair complexion and you will post her photo here as an East Asian looking Visayan if ever you get a photo of her. She said she herself did not know that she was actually 1/8 Chinese and 1/8 Spanish until this project. And her Spanish ancestors were 2 Spanish friars!
maybe some have chinese ancestry going back to 1,000 years
again that is 1,000 years ago...their ancestors eventually became visayan like everyone else
The Chinese didnt just come to the Visayas 1,000 years ago and just stop coming...

BS. If someone is 1/8th Chinese and the rest Visayan and grew up in the Visayas, speaking a Visayan language, practicing Visayan culture, that person is Visayan. They probably dont even care about their Chinese ancestry and dont feel the need to tell you about it.
Also, ancestry is funny because your mom could be 1/8th Chinese (and not know or care about it) and your dad could be 1/8th Chinese (and not know or care about) and that would also make you 1/8th Chinese. All of your grandparents could be 1/8th, and you'd also be 1/8th. It doesn't necessarily have to come from 1 Chinese ancestor that everyone knows about. The ancestry could be spread out among different lines

yes...but those who came recently were recorded by the spanish as chinese
I swear you fil-ams and your 1/8th percentage...do you take pride in your 1/16th spanish like every other fil-am who thinks he is spanish
What do you guys think of Ferdinand Marcos? Wikipedia says he's part Chinese, but he could easily pass for Chinese. He actually looks like Cambodia's Pol Pot and quite a few Cambodians look like him. What ethnic group would he belong to? Wiki says he has 'Ilokano roots.'
Maybe some Austronesian groups just look more Chinese since they did come from China after all.
